We've GOT to get rid of that lazy box...
That should be the absolute minimum as a starting point. I'd argue that there should not be a political designation of any kind next to anyone's name. Didn't do any research before showing up? Have fun voting. I know that could pose unforeseen issues, so I'm open to counter points.

I have no idea about the legality of this, but it does seem like Republicans are tripping over themselves to give cover to more centrist democrats from the progressive wing.

Biden knew this was going to be struck down when he made the initial announcement. No way he makes this pre- mid term promise without knowing, or at least being told, he doesn’t have the authority to do it! It’s straight from the Dem playbook. Make a populist promise you have no legal way of keeping, then blame the evil Republicans when they point that out. But hey, it works on the uneducated.

Except you're missing where the progressive wing was calling for an even broader forgiveness through executive action. Multiple progressive leaders were pushing him to cancel all student debt. If you're saying that he went the more moderate route with a scaled back version knowing even then that conservative appointees would block even that, then you're also saying he played the progressive wing just about perfectly. It gets them animated without him having to make any real progress in that issue. I'm guessing you don't like that idea either.

people blame the 'evil republicans' cuz that's the party that is trying to block student loan forgiveness...why didn't they fight to block the PPP's?! Cuz it helped the wealthy...our country/politicians care/look out for the wealthy, and continually $H!t on the middle class/poor, and we just take it..."we" vote in these politicians and think we are all on the same team...the "people" go to the polls to get these people in an office and then twiddle out thumbs while they throw their victory parties and go about ignoring us...imagine a group of people/friends planning a huge party and the 'elite few' tell a big group of people that they are in charge of getting the party set up from decorating and buying all the food and beer, then the 'elite few' have the party and refuse the people who planned, decorated, and bought stuff entry...god bless us...

First, comparing PPP and student loans is apples and oranges. PPP loans were designed to keep workers paid during the pandemic when their were lockdowns or extreme economic slowdown.

Second, the method for PPP loan forgiveness was certainly bad. No doubt the Biden administration completely mismanaged. But just because that method was bad does not make it right to forgive student obligations.

Third, PPP was a program approved by Congress. The student loan was unilaterally just President Biden.

Do you really want a one person transferring $400B of debt from one group to another without approval of Congress?

We had the worst idea. But the party that didn’t have the votes didn’t block it.

Oregon voters approve permit-to-purchase for guns and ban high-capacity magazines npr

Oregonians have voted to significantly tighten the state's gun laws, according to a call by The Associated Press. Measure 114 will create a permit-to-purchase system and ban magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

Until now, only seven states and Washington, D.C., have had permit-to-purchase laws that apply to all firearms, according to the Giffords Law Center, a national gun safety advocacy organization. Eight states and Washington, D.C., have high-capacity magazine bans as strict as the one Oregon has just passed, Giffords says.
Gun deaths have been rising nationally and Oregon is no exception. Nearly 600 people were killed by firearms in the state in 2020 – 77% of them by suicide. Oregon is among the states with the highest rates of suicide. Research shows that tighter gun laws are closely correlated with lower suicide rates.

Reaction to the shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde this spring drove the surge in voters willing to sign petitions to get the measure on the ballot in Oregon. Created by a small group of faith-based activists, Measure 114 gained national attention – and funding – when it became the only ballot initiative in the country with the potential to tighten state gun laws this fall.
About a third to half of Oregonians own guns, which tracks with national trends. And while many gun owners opposed the measure on principle, others said they were willing to deal with the new hassle of obtaining a permit if it meant saving lives.

Interesting data showing how much progress has actually been made in last 60 years.
BTW, human progress.org is a great follow on Twitter for interesting stats like this.

The vaccine could also benefit people who are accidentally exposed to fentanyl such as police and other first responders, who have reported overdoses after responding to fentanyl-related calls.

This is a myth. Fentanyl is a very useful drug when used correctly and taking a vaccine to prevent accidental exposure would be lunacy.
