Plus the fact , when you raise the wage. Who do you think will take your order at McDonalds? It will be automated. This will happen in a lot of industries and unemployment will rise. Soon we will have lost so much of our tax base, that you will be paying more in taxes than you take home.
It already is without an increase in minimum wage though. Self check out at Wal Mart is pretty common. The McDonald's where I live had a self order station pre pandemic. At my Subway the drive through has a touch screen. A lot of automation is going to or already has happened regardless of what employers pay their workers.
Welcome to an economy where only LARGE CORPORATIONS survive. Despite what you socialist think us small businesses owners ACTUALLY CARE about our employees. If you think large corporations or the government does do you are CRAZY. How can people be so blind?

That’s what they do in Australia. There’s a progression of minimum-wage from 18 to 21
Have you considered offering your economic expertise to Mexico or perhaps Guatemala or Honduras? I'm not sure their leadership is aware that the secret to prosperity is for the government to just mandate it. Chuck Biden met with Obrador yesterday and said Mexico is our equal. I wonder if he mentioned the fight for $15? That would certainly help to alleviate some of the crisis he's created at the border in all of a month in office.

Don’t worry 93 you will get your stimulus money.
I just hope y’all spend it on something that will stimulate the economy.

I made 76k last year. Like , almost on the dot. Hell yeah, Im getting the whole enchilada. I like the targeted approach though. It seems more appropriate.

where are my BidenBucksTM?!?! I was promised 2k in the GA special election?!?!!?
Well you got the $600 yeah? So the $1400 you'll be getting here ought to do the trick.

I've been pondering this. My initial inclination is to always squirrel it away. But it is intended for a purpose and I have been wanting to redo the countertops.

nope. they changed the phase out from 200K downwards to 160K for joint filers.

75000 is the beginning point of phase out for single filers, with anyone over 80k pounding sand.
I (and many others) are going to be unexpectedly pounding sand.

I NEED to paint my house, but its not going to happen now.

its going to be a party line vote. not even close to anything bipartisan which is really lame considering all the "unity" bs Biden has been preaching.

Well then perhaps you were never promised this money in the first place, based on your income. the $600 we got a couple months ago had similar income limits.

He can preach unity, but he's not the king, he cant force anyone on the hill to do anything those sycophants dont want to do.

I cant imagine $1400 being that big of a stretch for someone who makes too much money to qualify for this stimulus.

Previous stimulus didnt have the same income limits.. the phase out was much higher. Biden and senate dems lopped it off 40K short of what it was for joint filers. 160K is very different from 200K. 160K sounds like a lot in OK, but in many other high cost of living states, it isn't much.

Sure but i expect leaders to do more than preach. they should practice WHAT they preach. we are one month into the Biden admin and bipartisanship isn't even being attempted. go figure.

Therein lies the rub.. 160K in Tulsa is doing quite well, 160K in San Francisco.. not so much. Same with the minimum wage.. $15 in Seattle makes sense, $15 in Stillwater makes no sense.

Indeed, I read that the $600 we got recently was capped at $174k for joint filers. is that not right? I was just circling back to your initial post about being promised the 2k. You are too rich to have been the recipient of such a promise with regard to these income limitations. I wouldnt have expected a dime based on those numbers.

I agree, i wish they would do more than preach. If congress has shown us anything over the last 20 years is that they are not employees of the executive branch and dont have to do anything potus says. They should be beholden to their constituents, but that seems pretty irrelevant to them anymore. It seems like the dems and repubs are more beholden to the power and money behind their parties. I do hate me some party politics.

I would not be opposed to states determining their own minimum wage and if smaller jurisdictions like LA, SF, seattle etc want to have a different minimum that's fine too. The feds can just make a national minimum for anyone working full time. nobody working full time makes less than X per week/month/year in the US. Then each state operates within those bounds.

29 states already have a minimum wage above the national standard.

That said.. the federal minimum wage could use a bump, just not doubled.

The national standard is just that, a bare bones minimum 'we'd pay you less but it's a crime' standard. Good for those 29 states, one day we will get to 50!

If we had an appropriate minimum wage (let's say $10) nobody would be calling to double it. 10 -> 15 would be a much smaller jump than 7 ->15 . I wouldnt call for $15 today, but for example, by 2030, there's no reason why it shouldnt be $15. And we can re-evaluate every year to see if it needs adjusting or not. At the very least, lets get the US in the top 10. We are more than capable of that small feat. At the end of the day $15/ hr isnt even a lot of money. but we can certainly do better than we are now. and there's lots of ways to approach this. the min wage for people under 18 can be lower, for example. and same for people up to the age of 21.
