29 states already have a minimum wage above the national standard.
That said.. the federal minimum wage could use a bump, just not doubled.
The national standard is just that, a bare bones minimum 'we'd pay you less but it's a crime' standard. Good for those 29 states, one day we will get to 50!
If we had an appropriate minimum wage (let's say $10) nobody would be calling to double it. 10 -> 15 would be a much smaller jump than 7 ->15 . I wouldnt call for $15 today, but for example, by 2030, there's no reason why it shouldnt be $15. And we can re-evaluate every year to see if it needs adjusting or not. At the very least, lets get the US in the top 10. We are more than capable of that small feat. At the end of the day $15/ hr isnt even a lot of money. but we can certainly do better than we are now. and there's lots of ways to approach this. the min wage for people under 18 can be lower, for example. and same for people up to the age of 21.
