Does anyone know how communism took over Poland, and the timeframe it took?

Will history repeat itself?

;)
Yeah. I think its certainly possible that next year Canada has violent communist revolution.

Then 20 years later . . I guess thats 2030ish, Mexico elects a fascist regime bent on military conquest and genocide. They go to war with the US as the battle ground. Columbia (given that they are a bastion of liberal capitalism) joins in to fight the mexi-nazis.

The Canadians and the Columbians eventually win, but are left in a new cold war with all the intervening territory under their control. The Canadian Commies set up a puppet government in the United States which obviously is run by the Gulag back in Vancouver, B.C.

Yes, totally plausible.

It already looks like it is happening with here with all but one of the media outlets pushing Obama. The communist took over Polland using the media.

If you were going to turn a country to a socialist or communist rule, how would you go about it peacefully?

By using the media to promote some relatively unknown, liberal extremist running for the highest office in the country, who is making extravagant promises to the lower classes, and inciting class warfare? Who is also attempting to redistribute wealth through tax policy?

You know...I've been thinking about this alot lately.

I'm starting to wonder if some kind of psuedo-socialist government and economic system is inevitable in advanced, stable democracies.

We already have a fairly socialist government. The only thing missing is the transfer to the business sector which is slowly but surely happening.

However, that's a far cry from actual communism. There are a ton of forms inbetween.

Maybe Marx got it right. His ideas were just force implemented in too early of a time in a bad way. What if it just takes time and can only come about peacefully?

If you could ever get past the free-rider problem (unlikely), and break down the communism/socialism on a community level, who knows?

I'm beginning to think it's inevitable. The people want change. They don't want a capitalist approach anymore. They want collectivism.

I'm scared. But curious how this huge shift left will affect our way of life.

What do you think communism is? People keep giving me the eye roll when I mention that America will become much more of a socialist nation with Obama as president just like you did. It's not a secret what he wants to do.

His principles are socialist in nature. Your exaggeration notwithstanding, why do you get offended when people point that out? If it's what you believe in, shout it from the rooftops.

As has been pointed out in several other threads, His proposals are not any worse than the Wealth sharing already going on. The Bailouts, the economic stimulus's, the Mortgage saving plans, The bank buyouts, are all wealth redistribution and have happened with a Republican as President.

MY exaggeration? Stepping from calling Obama Socialist, to Communist is not an exaggeration to an exaggeration?

In Polland, it was done by taking over and controlling the media. Those in charge of the media were given deals they couldn't refuse to go along. If they didn't go along, they were fired or disappeared.

Polland switched to communism in a matter of days without a shot being fired.

This is some of the most blatant deception I've seen in a long time.

1. There is really nothing similar about our situation and Poland's.

Poland was under military occupation. It was broke, devastated, and they had never had a democracy before. They had just had large numbers of their populace brutaly exterminated by the people in charge. They had KGB running all over the country. The communists in fact admitted later that most of the elections were rigged or flat our faked.

2. You are deliberately conflating two terms that you know are quite different. Socialism and Communism are different things.

Socialism is a form of government that promotes government control of industry (to a greater or lesser degree). We are already socialist in many respects. We don't have a privatized military, police or fire department, or educational system. Most of the city utilities like water and road maintenance are government run. The government delivers the mail. It runs a television station. It operates our national parks. All those are forms of socialism. Most importanly, socialism does not have anything to do with democracy or a lack thereof. There are many places in the world (Sweden or Argentina for example) where there are fully functional democracies that have chosen a socialist form of government.

Communism is not the same. Communism is usually some form of socialism enforced by a ruling body in one party system. They have no elections. They are not a democracy.

People who have true faith in your beliefs don't need deception to support them.

Which is exactly what we will have if Obama is elected along with a fillibuster-proof Democratic Congress.
I think there is quite a bit of difference between a one party system and a democratically elected body with clear term limits that exists within a 3 part government devoted to power sharing. Don't you?
