interesting on the D. lots of talk but we are 6th in the big12, ppg. i thought we would be a little better than that but not the only good D in the big12.

Meh PPG comparison is meaningless at this point of the season due to the variability of the quality of teams scheduled. Even still - OSU defense is the only defense to not allow more than 20 points in a game.

They dial it up tighter and tighter as the game goes on, if you are going score on the Pokes it best be early. I've been impressed with that extra gear they seem to have.

I understand your point though I do not 100% agree.

On the 20 points thing, Tulsa.

Our 3rd down defense, once the bane of our existence, is now stellar and one of the best in the country. Knowles knows 3rd downs!
“Deuce Vaughn who entered the game leading the Big 12 and ranked eighth in the nation with 371 rushing yards, gained just 22 yards on 13 carries for Kansas State (3-1, 0-1). Vaughn did collect a team-high 73 yards and a TD on five receptions.”

Eliminate the Kick-Off TD and the INT TD and OSU is giving up 16.25 per game which is within half a point of first in the BIG 12. The top 3 PPG allowed teams in the BIG12: Baylor, WV, and OU have not given up any special team or offensive turnovers for TD's.

Iowa State's Defense is 2nd in the nation in giving up 3.5 yards per play. IOWA loss, they gave up a Fumble TD and Baylor loss they gave up a Kick-off TD.

OSU's Defense is 24 in the nation and 2nd in the BIG 12 at allowing 4.5 yards per play.

I couldn't find anything on points per possession allowed, which I think is a great indicator.

It is still a little early to put too much weight on stats due to the large variance in quality opponents on everyone's schedule. But I think we have a great defense especially when they get some rest between possessions.

It’s okay to agree to disagree.

Tulsa scored 23 points on the pokes. 7 of those points came by way of a Pick 6. Where OSU did give up 23 points, the defense only gave up 16 of those. So if we’re going to compare defenses based on PPG, it’s only fair to include only the points that the defense is responsible for.

Iowa State- I just knew that they were in trouble with all the hype and big pre-season All-American status . . . we've been there before and knew there was a bigger chance of them tripping up than fulfilling their lofty expectations. I'm not sad. . . (and yes, I'm still butt-hurt about 2011).
