Several former Cowboys saw action in the NFL’s Week 6 including a couple career firsts for a pair of Poke rookies. Let’s get into it.

Chuba Scores First Career TD

A week after recording his first 100-yard rushing game, Chuba Hubbard scored his first career TD during the first half of the Panthers’ 34-28 loss to the Vikings.

Hubbard finished the game with 61 yards and that score on 16 carries. And with Christian McCaffrey now being placed on IR, it looks like it’s the Chuba Show for at least the next three weeks.

Blake Needed Only One

Former OSU tight end Blake Jarwin has had to share the load in Dallas more this year than expected, but he’s still finding the end zone.

Dalton Schultz appears to have usurped Jarwin as the TE1 for the time being, but the former Tuttle standout needed only one target to score during the Cowboys’ 35-29 win over the Patriots.

Amen Ogbongbemiga a ‘Bright Spot’ in First Start

Injury to Chargers linebacker Drue Tranquill made way for rookie Amen Ogbongbemiga to log his first career start, and the rookie didn’t disappoint.

Ogbongbemiga racked up eight total tackles (three solo) in the Chargers’ 34-6 loss to the Ravens. He had just one tackle in three appearances coming in.

Chargers head coach Brandon Staley said he was “really proud” of Obongbemiga and fellow rookie LB Nick Niemann who backed him up.

“For their first action, to go against a rushing attack that prolific … I thought that they were definitely a bright spot for us,” said Staley, according to Chargers.com.

He stated there was plenty to learn from on tape, but also added he thought that “they’re going to play a lot.”

Across the field, Tylan Wallace is also recording tackles, but that’s all.

Wallace has done all of his damage on special teams so far in the first six weeks of his NFL career. He’s only appeared in seven offensive snaps this year and has yet to be targeted. For shame!

Tre Flowers Heads to Cincy

The former OSU safety-turned-Seattle cornerback is getting a fresh start. Days after requesting a release from the Seahawks, Flowers was picked up by the Bengals off of waivers.

Flowers spent four years in Seattle after Pete Carroll selected him in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft to convert the lanky, fast college safety into a CB. Flowers started every game at corner his first two seasons but fell down the depth chart (and out of favor in Seahawks Twitter) last season.

Flowers was inactive during the Bengals’ 34-11 win over the Lions.

What’s the deal in Jacksonville?

No, the other deal.

The Jaguars selected former Cowboy receiver Tyron Johnson off of waivers in Week 1, but he has recorded just one catch so far. After turning heads as a deep-play threat with the Chargers last year, Johnson was let go by Los Angeles. And in Jacksonville, he’s seen his snaps decrease every week until he saw zero plays as an active member of the roster in Week 5. In the Jaguars’ Week 6 win over the Dolphins he was a healthy scratch, despite injuries ahead of him on the receiving depth chart.

Other Notes

• The Seattle Seahawks placed Chris Carson on injured reserve due to a “neck inflammation” that has been described as a long term condition. It’s the same aliment that kept him out the previous two weeks. With the IR designation, Carson will miss at least three weeks.

• Emmanuel Ogbah pitched in for three total tackles, a sack and a pass breakup during the Dolphins’ 23-20 loss to the Jaguars.

• Even with JuJu Smith-Schuster out, James Washington saw just eight snaps, catching his one target for nine yards. There were a couple of explanations for his lack of usage.

Mike Tomlin said that James Washington’s usage — just 8 snaps — was because of matchups, not a lingering injury. He missed the Broncos game with a hamstring injury and was limited in practice leading up to Sunday.

Canada on James Washington lack of snaps v Seattle-“James was out the week before & coming off some bumps & bruises. Obviously we know how talented we is. James is a guy we freakin’ love. We know he can do a great job. He will continue to be a big part of our offense.”
