Life span of about 14 days after they sprout I'm told. Look for where water would run off your property under trees, they will be on the sides of that. Needs to be somewhat of a moist location. We find ours under old oaks.

Look for a whitish brain looking fungus sticking out of the leaves like the pics above. usually up close to the trunk of a tree (5' radius) but not always. Wont be in dry locations.

Be careful of snakes though. You'll be walking through there territory.

So as a beginner and someone who has always wanted to try and hunt some myself, are there certain areas that they grow more often in? What are signs you can look for when hunting for them?
Timbered areas along creeks. I particularly like those with dead/stressed elms and sycamore trees. Has to be the right day; a day or two early and you won't think they grow there.
