I don't know the answer, but your question reminds me of the Texas player who starred against us in GIA in one of the early B12 years. It was an early January game and they already knew he would be academically ineligible for the second semester, but he was allowed to play until that semester started. I was royally pi$$ed.

NCAA dropped academic requirements I thought. So I would think that maybe he took some summer or inter-session classes and didn't do well.
