Often QB’s go down the first several games. Maybe he gets picked up by LA as backup for Stafford if he gets injured as he is 35 and Zac Robinson is the pass game coordinator and QB coach at LA.

Am I the only alum who's just.. meh... about all the attention Mason Rudolph's travails in the NFL gets?
He gets similar scrutiny to most backup quarterbacks with a little more this year because he's in the running to replace a longtime starter. And he gets a little more extra attention because some people remember that Myles Garrett tried to crush his skull in a few years ago. Pretty much any backup qb that looked average when called upon isn't going to have the faith of the fanbase. I've seen it a dozen times as a Dallas fan. I think a trade and fresh start is best for him. The Steelers fanbase will never like him unless he goes full Brady or Rodgers all of a sudden.

I really don't understand the hate Pittsburg fans have for him. Is he a hall of famer? No, but he is a serviceable backup that might even be a decent starter under the right conditions. Professional fans are a fickle and weird bunch.
Don’t think the Garrett situation panned out the way they would’ve wanted it to. You know NFL fans, especially Yankees, think it’s WWE out there…

It was never right for him in Pittsburgh. Roethlisberger immediately crapped on him because he was mad the organization for drafting a QB. That started a weird conflict between the two of them. He had mixed results when he played while Roethlisberger was hurt. The stars never aligned for him.
They drafted him in the 3rd round; it's not like he was the number 1 pick. He's performed like a 3rd rounder. None of it makes any sense.

Pittsburgh fell apart just JW & MR were signed in 2018 IMO. What went on with Bell and Brown was strange and impactful. Steelers were having to pay (3) All Pro caliber players so they sign MR in the third round and dump Landry Jones. Sure they dumped (2) All Pro salaries in a short span but trying to keep those guys impacted every decision they made. Those salaries required making saving else where. By 2021 the roster was broken and the OC created an offense for an immobile and fragile QB that lost his touch on the deep ball. That is what MR got to command. MR made mistakes but the situation was bad and IMO that what resonates with the fans. Steelers have good leadership so they may get it turned around. I think we all wished MR got Bell, Brown, and Washington with a good OL. That just never happened and none of that is MR fault. Time to move on and get another chance.

THat's a very good breakdown, of the Steelers breakdown.

Only bone I'd pick with it is that the Steelers continued to have very good WR talent after Brown left.

Steelers updated their depth chart today, Mason is now listed 3rd string after Trubisky and Pickett. This was pretty much preordained from the time they picked up the expensives Trubisky. Feel bad for Rudolph if he gets stuck in no mans land with no shot to see any kind of playtime. Here's to hoping he gets traded to a team that needs a proven backup where he has a shot to see the field if an injury happens.

Best job in the world holding a clipboard on the sidelines of an NFL game with a baseball cap on. Making several million a year.

Mason is doing just fine.
