It's about go time! I'll try my best to keep it updated throughout the day. I'm most excited to see Kyle Haas (who didn't wrestle his HS senior year this year) and Anthony Ferrari and see what they got. If you like wrestling at all, a subscription to flowrestling is more than worth it. It's not perfect, but its easily the place to see the most wrestling throughout the year.

Reece Witcraft Juniors 61 kg Current

Reece is a True Sophomore who struggled a little bit in 2019-20 going 18-10 for the Pokes. Last year he was the backup for Daton Fix at 133. As a HS Senior from Broken Arrowhe was the #8 ranked recruit at 126.

Round of 64: Caden Siebrecht (Eastern Iowa) - Witcraft techs him 10-0 in about 30 seconds.
Round of 32: Yury Pazdneev (Columbus Wrestling Club) - Witcraft wins 11-0 in about a minute and a half. Dominating.
Round of 16: Carter Young (Cowboy RTC) just flat smokes Witcraft. 12-2 and it wasn't that close.
Conso of 16: Cullen Schriever (Hawkeye WC). Schriever takes out his second Cowboy in a row 14-4.

Teague Travis Juniors 65 kg Future

Teague Travis is a HS Senior that moved to Stillwater this year after 2 straight Missouri state championships. He won the 145 pound championship here in OK making it 3 in a row. He is a top 40 overall recruit in the class of 21 and the Cowboys are glad to have him.

Round of 64: Caleb Meunier (Askren Wrestling Academy): Teague jumps out to a big 8-0 lead within about 30 seconds, before Caleb has a nice TD to draw closer at 8-2. Teague gets a TD and Gut to tech him 12-2 with a minute left in the first.

Round of 32: Daniel Cardenas (Nittany Lion Wrestling Club). Daniel won 10-7 in his round of 64 match. Cardenas wins 7-2

Conso of 32: Ryan Michaels (Pitt WC): Travis wins 10-0 in the second period to move on.

Conso of 16(1): Theodor Cha (Gopher Wrestling Club) - After going down 8-4, Travis comes back and scores 14 straight points to win 18-8

Conso of 16(2): Antonio George (Oklahoma RTC) - Travis wins 9-4 to keep his day going.

Conso of 8(1): Shannon Hanna (Buies Creek WC) - Hanna beats Travis 5-2 in a low scoring affair to end Travis' tournament.

Daniel Manibog Juniors 70 kg Current

Daniel is Redshirt Freshman from Katy, TX. He was 4-5 in extra matches at 165 this year and was probably our 4th best wrestler at 157.

Round of 64: Marco Ruffinelli (San Francisco Wrestling Club): Daniel jumps out to a big lead and puts him away 10-0 in about a minute.

Round of 32: Terrell Barraclough (Nittany Lion Wrestling Club) - Terrell won his first match 10-0 and second match 13-2. Manibog wins a close one 10-6.

Round of 16: Edward Scott (Wolfpack WC) takes out Manibog 15-8

Conso of 16(2): Daniel Mancini (Pittsburgh WC) - Manibog techs Mancini 13-2 at beginning of second period.

Conso of 8(1): Trevor Chumbley (Wildcat WC) - Chumbley dominates Manibog 13-2 in early 2nd.

Anthony Ferrari Juniors 70 kg Future

Anthony Ferrari is a HS Jr who has committed to the Cowboys. After moving to Stillwater (from Texas) this year, he won the OK State championship at 160. After spending some time as the #1 overall ranked recruit in the country, he fell back a little to the #15 overall ranked recruit. Still a stud that is expected to do some damage in this bracket.

Round of 64: Jackson Dean (Penn): Absolute domination. 10-0 tech in under a minute.

Round of 32: Willie McDougald (Oklahoma RTC) - Willie won 11-1 in his first match. Ferrari makes quick work of the OK RTC 10-0 in the first.

Round of 16: Trevor Chumbley (Wildcat Wrestling Club) - Another easy 12-2 Tech - this time in period 2. Ferrari is being super aggressive and looking stout.

Quarters: Edward Scott (Wolfpack WC) - Scott has won his 3 matches today, 12-1, 10-0 and 15-8 against Cowboy Daniel Manibog. Scott wins 11-7 after Ferrari being up 5-0. Ferrari kept bleeding which I think threw him off some. He's not as strong as AJ, but maybe a little craftier.

Conso of 8(2): Joey Bianchi (Arkansas RTC) - Ferrari injury defaults. Not sure what happened.

Travis Wittlake Jr. Seniors 79 kg Current (8 seed)

Travis is a 165 pound redshirt Sophomore for the Pokes. He finished the 20-21 school year 22-3. He spent much of the year around #5 in most rankings and finished 4th at the NCAA championships is a close loss to Keegan O'Toole from Missouri.

Round of 64: BYE

Round of 32: Justin Phillips (Cavalier Wrestling Club). Wittlake techs Justin 13-2 in the second period.

Round of 16: Muhamed McBride (New York Athletic Club) - 9 seed McBride won his first match 10-0. Wittlake takes out McBride in a close 2-1 match!

Quarters: Isaiah Martinez (1 seed - Beaver Dam RTC) - Martinez wins 9-3.

Conso of 8(2): Michael O'Malley (4 seed - Penn RTC) - Too little too late after being down 4-0 to start the first. Came back to get 3 in last 10 seconds.

Kyle Haas Juniors 86 kg Future

Kyle was a top-ranked 220 recruit who most thought might be a heavyweight. Moving down to what is essentially 190 is interesting as AJ Ferrari has repeatedly talked about moving up to Heavy. At the time he signed, he was the overall #10 recruit in the nation. He did not wrestle in HS last year, moving instead to Stillwater to train with the Cowboy Wrestling Club.

Round of 64: Reece Worachek (Wisconsin): Haas smokes him 10-0 in 43 seconds

Round of 32: Shane Quick (Buies Creek WC): Another easy TF in 41 seconds.

Round of 16: Fernando Villaescusa (Cyclone RTC) - Fernando won his first 2 matches 14-4 and 9-3. Haas smokes Villaescusa 11-0 in about a minute.

Quarters: Duwayne Villalpando (Tiger Style WC) - After being down 4-0, Haas comes back and goes up 6-4 before Villalpando injury defaults.

Semis: Darrien Roberts (Oklahoma RTC) - Darrien has won 8-4, 7-4, and 8-2 to give this Bedlam flavor to the semis. Roberts beats Haas 8-3 to make the finals. Haas will wrestle Sunday.

Conso Semis: Jaxon Smith (Georgia) - This one was back and forth, and Haas just didn't get it done. He looked like the better wrestler, frankly. but Smith was crafty on the edges, just giving up step-out points rather than takedowns. Smith wins 13-7 dropping Haas to the 5th place match.

5th Place: Sam Wolf (Colorado) - Sam is 6-2 on the tournament battling his way back through the losers bracket after dropping his first match.

Talmage Carman Juniors 86 kg Future

Round of 64: BYE

Round of 32: Drayton Harris (Missouri) - Harris takes out Carmen 6-3, after Carman was up 3-0 going into second. Carmen gave up two 2 point moves in last 30 seconds.

Conso of 32(2): Wyatt Hoeppner (Colorado Mesa WC) - Carman wins 14-4

Conso of 16(1): Reece Worachek (Wisconsin) - Worachek ends Carman's day 13-7.

Luke Surber Juniors 92 kg Current

Surber is a Freshman for OSU and went 8-1 in extra matches at 197 behind AJ Ferarri.

Round of 32: BYE

Round of 16: Max Shaw (Tarheel Wrestling Club) - Small bracket and neither guy has wrestled yet. Surber takes out Shaw (and had a sweet 5 point throw) 14-4.

Quarters: Rocky Elam (Tiger Style WC) - Rocky was a 5th place NCAA finisher as a freshman this year. Rocky builds a 7-0 lead before cruising to a 7-2 win.

Conso of 8(2): Levi Hopkins (Buies Creek WC) - Surber gets a quick takedown and leg lace and wins 10-0 in 41 seconds.

Conso of 4: Trevor Tinker (Central Coast RTC) - Surber continues his good morning by getting a takedown and 2 quick turns to go up 6-0. He then gets another takedown and exposure to win 10-0 n 47 seconds.

Conso Semis: Isiah Pettigrew (Team Poeta) - Surber makes quick work of Pettigrew, 10-0 in 44 seconds to move to the 3rd place match!

3d Place: Max Shaw (Tar Heel WC) - Shaw was Surber's first opponent, so we will see if Shaw has more fight than he did first go round. Surber gets a nice double to Shaw's back to go up 4-0. Shaw steps out to give Surber a 5-0 lead which is where the first period ends. Surber gets a td to go up 7-0 then in a scramble, Shaw get 2 points. 7-2. Challenge. After challenge, the refs make it 9-0 Surber. Surber then gets a sweet td to end it 11-0.

3d place for Surber! Not too shabby.

Austin Schafer Seniors 97 kg Former (4 seed)

Austin Schafer now wrestles out of the NY Athletic Club and is a 4 seed in a small 14 man bracket. Austin last wrestled for OSU in 2016-17 as an undersized senior heavyweight who won the Big XII. He won the US Open in 2018 at this weight in 2018.

Round of 16: Joseph Reimers (Nebraksa Golden Eagles) - Schafer takes out Reimers 10-0 in the first period.

Quarters: Christopher Smith (Southeast RTC) - Austin beats Smith 9-4 after being up 9-0 with a minutes and a half left.

Semifinals: Samuel Mitchell (Bulls WC) - Mitchell upset the 1 seed from Oklahoma RTC 10-6 in the first round. Alas, his cinderella story ends here as Schafer takes him out 14-4 in only 2 minutes for Schafer to make the FINALS!

Finals: Nathan Rotert (Jackrabbit WC) - Rotert scored the heavy upset over the 2 seed Erik Hinkley in the first round. He then won 10-0 and 10-6 to make the finals. Schafer should be heavily favored to win here. Schafer techs Rotert 10-0. Rotert tries a throw and Schafer has some great defense to come out on top at the beginning of the match. Also had a fun moment when these big boys went off the mat and crashed into the table. Great tournament WIN for Austin Schafer!

Derek White Seniors 125 kg Former (7 seed)

Derek White wrestles out of the Titan Mercury Wrestling Club in California. He's a top senior-level wrestler, but is in a stacked bracket with some real hammers. Nick Gwizdowski is the 1 seed and is his training partner. If he makes it past his first-round match, he has Anthony Cassioppi, probably underrated as a 10 seed waiting for him.

Round of 32: Brandon Metz (Bison Wrestling Club): White up 3-0 at end of 1st mostly on pushouts. Boring 2nd period keeps it 3-0 for the win.

Round of 16: Anthony Cassioppi(!) (Hawkeye WC) - As I expected Cassioppi takes out White 4-1 and has won 2 more after that to make the finals against Gwiz.

Conso of 16: Mauro Correnti (New York Athletic Club) - White loses 3-3 on criteria after giving up a TD with 36 seconds left. Not a great tournament for Derek White.

Konner Doucet Juniors 125 kg Current

Konner is a stud, but undersized heavyweight who was part of OSU' #1 ranked 2020 recruiting class. Konner won 4 straight OK state championships (Class 3A) and a top 100 overall recruit (around #90). He was 6-3 wrestling extra matches this year and is really pushing the also undersized Austin Harris for the starting spot.

Round of 32 : BYE

Round of 16: Robbie Unruh (Bulls Wrestling Club) - Easy tech for Konner 10-0 in a little over a minute.

Quarters: Peter Christensen (Wisconsin RTC) - Pretty uneventful 2-1 win for Doucet

Semis: Wyatt Hendrickson (Air Force RTC) - 2-0 loss for Doucet with only score coming at the beginning of the match. Probably most boring match of the day for me, lol.

Conso Semis: Matthew Cover (Princeton WC) - After ending the 1st period down 1-0, Doucet can't get much done in second either and loses 5-1.

5th Place: Steven Kolcheff (Tiger Style WC) - Kolcheff appears to hurt his ankle while being taken down by Doucet. He eventually injury defaults down 8-0.

Doucet takes 5th

Cael Hughes Juniors 57 KG (Recruit)

Cael is a stud HS Sophomore that OSU would love to get. He wrestles for Stillwater High and won a HS State Championship as a freshman and sophomore and is undefeated in HS competition. He also won the 16U Freestyle national championship in 2019. He's the #38 overall ranked recruit in the nation for Sophomores according to Flo.

Round of 64: Angelo Lozado (Lil Saints Wrestling Club): Hughes dominates Angelo and almost techs him in the first period. Lozado had some fight in him in second and only loses 10-3

Round of 32: Troy Spratley (Texas Pride Wrestling Club) - Spratley spanks Hughes 12-0. I'm pretty shocked by this. Spratley (wrestled at Collinsville, OK and has signed with Minnesota) is a very good wrestler, just didn't think he'd embarrass Hughes like this.

Conso of 16(1): Noah Surtin (Tiger Style WC): 10-2 (Pin) for Surtin ending Cael's day. Truly expected a little more out of him.

The middle rounds didnt treat us as well as the first couple of rounds. And neither has my second fauci ouchie I got yesterday. I have barely been able to get off the couch, BUT I have been able to watch almost every match, so that's good. Will update soon. Ferrari and Haas are killing it, as is Stillwater's Carter Young.

Carter Young Juniors (Cowboy WC) 61 KG

Carter is a Stillwater HS Senior 3 time state champion (including this year at 138) He is signed to wrestle at Northwestern. Watching him completely dominate current Cowboy Reece Witcraft today makes me think OSU really missed one here (He was offered).

Round of 32: Caleb Svingala (New York) - 10-0 in period 1

Round of 16: Reece Witcraft (Cowboy RTC) - Spanked Witcraft 12-2 and didn't even seem that close.

Quarters: Jesse Vazquez (California) - Jesse won his first 3 matches 11-0, 12-2 and 3-2. After getting the first takedown 30 seconds in, Vazquez has no answer for Young, who techs him by scoring 12 points in about 20 seconds with a tight leg lace.

Semis: Benjamin Alanis (Thorobred WC) - Another Tech for Young 10-0 in first.

Finals (best of 3): Jesse Mendez (Region Wrestling Academy). Mendez is the overall #2 ranked wrestler in the class of '22. He has not picked a college yet. This will be fun to watch.

Round 1: Young starts off strong and gets a td going up 2-0. Mendez then hits a big move to Young's back and gets the pin!

Other wrestlers of note:

John Wiley (HS Class of '22) and Cameron Picklo (older brother of Tate) from Oklahoma RTC have also made the same quarters that Ferrari did (70 KG), giving Oklahoma 3 of the top 8 wrestlers left in the winners bracket. They are both from Mustang. (Update: Wiley and Picklo both lose in the quarters and Wiley loses in consolation bracket leaving only Picklo still wrestling Sunday)

OU Sophomore Darrien Roberts has made the finals at 86KG

Josh Heindselman, also from OU, has made the heavyweight finals

OU is going to be pretty stout the next couple of years.
