Look at how terrified they are...Democrats entire strategy is based off of silencing dissent.

"Private companies can do whatever they want. You should just start a different platform." I hope to god that elon buys twitter just so I can get to be an asshole and tell some crying leftist this. The schadenfreude it generates will sustain me for a year at least.

Also I think the best part of this is the fact this guy thinks democracy is so weak it cant withstand misinformation or any other attack. Democracy in America has withstood civil wars and WW. I think we are gonna be ok if you have to read where a conservative believes there is only 2 genders.

Politically, Musk has described himself as "half Democrat, half Republican" and "I'm somewhere in the middle, socially liberal and fiscally conservative." In 2018, he stated that he was "not a conservative. I'm registered independent [and] politically moderate."

I'll be interested to see how much apetite there is for the platform in 3, 5 years. Have we already seen the crest of the wave here for Twitter as it currently exists? Has the uniqueness, newness begun to wear off? How much are people's growing trepidations regarding social media going to impact Twitter?

Don't have a link, but ready an interesting article earlier this week about the level of trust that people in different countries have with Big Tech. EU countries respondants were in the 70% favorable view of Big Tech, on average. US respondents were 54% favorable for Big Tech. Assuming there's any validity to these numbers, that's pretty significant that almost 1 in 2 Americans expresses distrust in Big Tech.

Twitter has fewer users than Pinterest. Only a small subset of its small userbase tweet about politics.

If Twitter is going to grow it won't be because of their content moderation on political issues.

Exactly. From articles I've read over the last year plus, the number of inactive Twitter accounts continues to grow, and an increasingly small percentage of users are responsible for an increasing percentage of all tweets. In other words, it's becoming more and more driven by a small set of hyperactive users.

Russia and China have dedicated state employees who's job it is to create troll accts and mass spread misinformation.

agreed and he does fit that mold.
I'm not sure ANY American has faced the issue Elon did growing up and I would assume these types of things would still have an impact on his politics to this day as he has lived through and seen some wild times growing up involving his own Federal Governement

In 1988, after obtaining a Canadian passport, Musk left South Africa because he was unwilling to support apartheid through compulsory military service and because he sought the greater economic opportunities available in the United States.

I think Twitter's default setup is hurt more than other social media apps by the decline of the monoculture. Twitter was good and fun for the few hours after the Will Smith Slap when that was all anyone was talking about. Otherwise, if you have diverse interests (which hopefully you do) you're hit with all kinds of stuff tweet to tweet. It's not longer that great during OSU Football games for me because it's OSU Tweet, Politics Tweet, Tech Tweet, Movie Tweet, OSU Tweet. They seem to be trying to solve this problem with groups but I don't see any sign those are actually taking off. They're too late to it. People have Discord, Reddit and I'm sure other apps they've already started using that fills this purpose and probably does it better than Twitter because it's impossible to be Discord's main character like you can be Twitters for an ill considered message.
