I can agree with a full flush of all of our political system. Also new rules as to who is allowed on ballots etc. There should be at MINIMUM 3 different parties on each ballot and i'd prefer more. Have the Dems, GOP, Libertarians, Socialist etc. Give people more options than just the Giant douche or the turd sandwich that we currently have.

I wish we could extend that to every person working for the gop and dnc as well and make them hire all new people or they'll quickly corrupt any new people we elect.

I really think that is the crux of the problem. Nearly every issue now is 50/50. Dems line up on one issue and Repubs with the opposite view. It leaves little room for reason.

Since there is not the option of other parties, people lean to the side that supports their personal top issue.

Reading your posts just about brought a tear to my eye!! I've been shouting this from the rooftops on this board and in general life for a long time.

Can't credit the take to my own initial thoughts. Took a US Government course back in 2012 and that prof (who was EXCELLENT) is the one who brought the issue of the two party system being the main culprit in the dysfunction that does happen in our government.

LOL, dream on forever, Dreamweaver. There is no way in hell a Republican is going to vote out their Republican incumbents in Congress when it means voting for a Democrat. And vice versa for Democrats.

Sadly this.

These career politicians are so imbedded into government that there is no way to change it. Big government will continue to grow and grow and grow because the old timers want to keep milking it for all it's worth while others are clamoring to take their piece of the pie. Every year more tax payer dollars get spent, nothing gets accomplished, but they continue to be multimillionaires on six figure salaries because of lobbyists hired by big companies who are trying to cheat the system. It's a complete mess skewed to benefit the top, the left acts like they want to fix it and help the lower/middle class, yet it's a vicious cycle over and over again and there's little to nothing we can do about it.

In a nutshell, this is why Trump became president. He could talk the talk and look the part, but he was very unqualified, arrogant, and appalling to most. However, he was not the career politician that so many are sick and tired of. He tried to make changes but was fought on both sides on everything and was demonized for everything he did regardless of it's outcome. There was an article a few years back saying that lobbyists were shut out of DC during his tenure which impacted everyone.

That being said, I certainly hope that he does not run again and don't think the US can handle more divisiveness.

No Dem or GOP would have to vote out their party necessarily. Just if they would primary their incumbent to get new blood in there that would be great.

The original founding fathers wanted Government for the people by the people right...

Set it up like jury duty.

1) Gets rid of career politician
2) Lobbyists lose ownership of said career politicians as they don't know who's coming in and who to buy.
3) Gets rid of 2 party system
4) Gets rid of retirement benefits to career politician.

You serve 2 years. Change out 50% of the people every other year so the new people know what's going on.
Have to physically be in DC the 2nd month of every quarter for one month. Living arrangements like an apartment would be provided. Your guaranteed your job is safe back home while you serve, you get paid for your time served.

just my 2 cents.

I've been for term limits for a very long time.

The US Constitution does not mention political parties. The first amendment of our constitution allows for free assembly.

Any group is free to form a political party and promote a candidate for office. There are already mulitple parties in the United States.

Constitution Party
Democratic Party
Green Party
Libertarian Party
Natural Law Party
Reform Party
Republican Party
Socialist Party

So, exactly under the US Constitution how do we mandate/force people to form and/or join a political party that is equal in size and influence as the two largest and most powerful political parties?

Who gets to tell you what party you must be a member of and support?

"There is nothing I dread so much, as a Division of the Republick into two great Parties, each arranged under its Leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension is to be dreaded as the greatest political Evil, under our Constitution."

How is the constitution responsible for there being two major political parties?

You are free to join any one of the other 8 parties below (there may be more).

https://www.natural-law.org/

https://www.socialistpartyusa.net/
https://www.gop.com/

Or you can form your own political party or be an independent and not affiliated with any party.

It has a long history

Helen Hunt Jackson (1830-1885): "clear the swamp"

Winfield Gaylord (1870-1943): "drain" the "capitalist swamp"

Victor Berger (1860-1929): referred to changing the capitalist system as "draining the swamp"

For those of you complaining about there being only two major political parties what is your solution to form a third political party while not infringing upon peoples freedom of assembly?

To say that everyone in government is corrupt and should be kicked out is kind of stupid. Having people around that have experience and Have seen past things go terribly wrong is not always a bad thing. What we need is people of character to fill elected office.
