The Martha's Vineyard migrant flight has echoes of a dark past: Reverse Freedom Rides npr

In the summer of 1962, after three days on a Greyhound bus, Lela Mae Williams was just an hour from her destination—Hyannis, Mass. She went to the front of the bus and asked the bus driver to pull over. She needed to change into her finest clothes. She had been promised the Kennedy family would be waiting for her.
It was late on a Wednesday afternoon when that Greyhound bus from Little Rock, Ark., pulled into Hyannis. It slowed to a stop near the summer home of President John F. Kennedy and his family. When the doors opened, Lela Mae and her nine youngest children stepped onto the pavement.
Reporters' microphones pointed at her, their cameras trained on her family. The photographs in the next day's newspaper show Lela Mae looking immaculate. In an elegant black dress, a triple string of pearls and a white hat, she was dressed to start a new life.
"She was going to have a job, and she was going to be able to support her family," one of Lela Mae's daughters, Betty Williams, remembered in a recent interview. Before coming north to Massachusetts, Lela Mae had been promised a good job, good housing and a presidential welcome.
But President Kennedy was not there to meet her. And there was no job or permanent housing waiting for her in Hyannis. Instead, Lela Mae and the others were unwitting pawns in a segregationist game.
"It was one of the most inhuman things I have ever seen," recalled Margaret Moseley, a longtime civil rights activist in Hyannis, in a televised interview a few years before her death.
Fuming over the civil rights movement, Southern segregationists had concocted a way to retaliate against Northern liberals. In 1962, they tricked about 200 people from the South into moving north. The idea was simple: When large numbers of Black people showed up on Northern doorsteps, Northerners would not be able to accommodate them. They would not want them, and their hypocrisy would be exposed.
The Reverse Freedom Rides have largely disappeared from the country's collective memory. The scheme almost never appears in history books and is little-known even in Hyannis, the primary target of the ploy. But for the families who came to the North 60 years ago, based on a lie, the journey has cast an enduring shadow on their lives.
And the Reverse Freedom Rides have dark echoes in the campaign this summer by Republican governors to send migrants north to cities like Washington, D.C., New York, and Chicago to make a political point. This week, it was Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida who paid to send 50 migrants by plane to Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. This followed earlier efforts by Governors Greg Abbott of Texas and Doug Ducey of Arizona that have sent thousands of migrants north by the busload. Many of them, like the families 60 years ago, said they had traveled on false promises of help finding jobs and housing.

Instead...you will get DeSantis...using Tax Payer money to reroute 2 flights of immigrants from Texas to Florida for a touch and go stop and take off......spending $12 million in tax payer money in the process.

Yeah that was a complete and utter waste of Tax Payer $$ and Ignorant and does NOTHING to actually call attention to or attempt in any way to resolve the real problem laid out above.
* Why do you feel there is a difference between spending taxpayer money to route illegal immigrants as has been done multiple times by current administration? Is it because one is state money versus one is federal?

* If illegal immigrants stayed in FL, wouldn't taxpayer money be used to take care of them? Are you thinking less FL taxpayer money would be used to feed and house illegal immigrants than by cost of transporting them to other areas?

* Why do you think two flights cost $12M?

The flights originated in Texas and came to Florida. the only way the Immigrants made it to Florida, is because DeSantis chartered a plane (without Abbott Knowledge FYI) to fly them from Texas to Florida...then once they were in Florida...all they did was then take off and go to Martha's Vineyard.

The were NEVER Florida Immigrants to begin with...these were immigrants who showed up at the TEXAS border and had been processed and released into Texas.

I would suggest you read the whole Houston Chronical write up on this. They are trying to figure out why the Gov of Florida would go out of his way to use tax payer money to private charter some buses to pick up immigrants outside of a Texas Immigration processing station...and then drive those immigrants to the Air port where he has Also used tax payer money to charter two planes to load up with immigrants in Texas....without the Gov of Texas Knowledge....and then fly those two plane load of immigrants to his own state of Florida....and then send them to another state.

So if YOU can answer those questions why the Gov of Florida did this to Immigrants in and at the Texas Border...well then you will know alot more than most people cause everyone is looking for answers of WHY right now.

Are you sure 100% about that?

https://nypost.com/2021/11/06/desan...cretly-sent-70-planes-of-migrants-to-florida/

The US has sent over 70 flights of migrants from the Mexican border to Jacksonville, Florida since the summer — but the Biden administration has not disclosed any information about the clandestine transports, Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office claimed.

The alleged flights — which landed in overnight hours — come as officials struggle to deal with overcrowding at border facilities, according to The Washington Examiner.

“Over 70 air charter flights [on] jetliner airliners coming from the southwest border have landed at Jacksonville International Airport,” Larry Keefe, the Republican governor’s public safety czar, told the outlet.

“On average, there’s 36 passengers on each of these flights. And that has been going on over the course of the summer through September.”

Neither the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, nor Department of Health and Human Services would disclose any information to Florida officials regarding the flights, Keefe told the paper.

“We’re in a sad situation of trying to run an investigation. Who is facilitating this travel? How are they getting here? Who are the support people? Who are the sponsors?” Keefe reportedly asked, adding that his office was tipped off to the flights by local police.

Florida officials were aware that Jacksonville, which is along Interstate 95, was being used as a staging area for the migrants, who were taken by bus to locations up and down the coast, the report said.

“We don’t know definitively or specifically as to why Jacksonville is the chosen place,” Keefe said, according to the outlet. “[We’re] having to watch and observe — in effect, spy on the government to see what it is that they’re doing in the middle of the night out of these airport facilities.”

The disclosure comes on the heels of an exclusive Post report that found similar flights full of young migrants arriving in Westchester County Airport under the cover of night.

Let’s round up what we know:

The migrants appear to have never reached Florida. While the DeSantis administration has declined to answer detailed questions on the relocation operation, some of the migrants who arrived in Massachusetts have told media outlets about being approached in San Antonio and given promises of help. One migrant told the Boston Globe that a woman took him and others to a Texas hotel where she gave them meals and offered to help with paperwork. They were then put on a plane. NPR quoted migrants who said they were told they were going to Boston.

Plane records obtained by media outlets show the flights originated in Texas, stopped briefly in Crestview, Fla., and the Carolinas, then traveled to Martha’s Vineyard.

The administration of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott — whose office has offered details about its long-running program of bussing migrants, including its use of consent waivers — said that “we were not involved” in sending the planes to Massachusetts.

DeSantis sharply defended the operation during a press conference on Thursday. He blasted the Biden administration for its immigration policies and said they were working on “innovative ways” to protect Florida including helping people seek “greener pastures” and ship them to “sanctuary jurisdictions." “The minute even a small fraction of what those border towns deal with every day is brought to their front door, they all of a sudden go berserk,” he said.

Man if getting shipped to Martha's Vineyard is some sort of human rights violation then sign me the eff up.
how about using tax payer money to buy immigrants from other States and then ship to them an unsuspecting community because you "Think" they are all liberals?

He didn't have these people in his own state. He bought up some transport in a different State.....told the people they were getting on the transport to go to Boston to get work visas, then shipped them to his state..and then unsuspectingly sent them to a city up North...to OWN SOME LIBS.

yeah...these actual people he did this too...and actual people he had to use his own tax payers money for to get them to pull off this stunt.

But Hey...Owning Libs so all is well.

You know what thats called when you don't have a crisis where you are at, but others in other locations have a crisis....so you adjust the situation at your home to make it look like the area you live in has the crisis too????

That is a called Manufacturing a Crisis. at Taxpayer expense .

Look...I know it's humiliating to be called out for utterly failing to have the courage of your own convictions. These folks get shipped all over the US everyday nobody cares... Not until 48 of them show up in MV do libs give a rip. Then these super tolerant progressives promptly declare an emergency, call up 300 MA National Guardsmen and ship these folks away just in time for the elites to enjoy the weekend. LMFAO

It's hilarious.

This is what it boils down to. Incoming whatabout
Absolutely

50 immigrants die in dry van trailer, left there by some coyote. It's out of the news in less than an hour.

50 get shipped to Martha's Vineyard and it melts libs brains.
It's a guilty pleasure of mine. Fully admit it.
In my defense, I'm not the one who started 2-3 ENTIRE THREADS w/ the sole purpose of "OWNING" the other side like some others have done...

President Joe Biden and his administration on Thursday blasted Republican governors who have sent undocumented immigrants to other states in recent days.
“Republicans are playing politics with human beings, using them as props. What they’re doing is simply wrong, it’s un-American, it’s reckless,”

Biden’s remarks echoed those of his press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, Thursday afternoon.

“We have had a process in place, there is a legal way of doing this, and for managing migrants,” Jean-Pierre said during a White House press briefing. “Republican governors interfering in that process and using migrants as political pawns is shameful.”

...

Jean-Pierre did not hold back in railing against the strategy on Thursday, calling it a “cruel, premeditated political stunt.” She said that if the governors “truly care about border security,” they would have encouraged Republican senators from their states — including Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and Sens. Marco Rubio and Rick Scott of Florida — to vote to approve Biden’s request for Department of Homeland Security funding.
The press secretary also bristled at the fact that Fox News was alerted about the plan to drop the migrants outside of Harris’ residence before DHS or local government agencies became aware.
“The fact that Fox News and not the Department of Homeland Security, the city or local NGOs were alerted about a plan to leave migrants, including children, on the side of a busy D.C. street makes clear that this is just a cruel premeditated political stunt,” she said.

...

“It’s really just disrespectful to humanity,” she said. “It doesn’t afford them any dignity what they’re doing, when you’re abandoning families and children in a place where they were told they were going to get housing and a place where they were told they were going to get jobs. … It’s just cruel.”

White House says Republican governors shipping migrants to other states is ‘reckless,’ ‘shameful’
