WATCH: Here's NBC's Interview With Covington Catholic's Nick Sandmann That's Triggered The Left

As The Daily Wire reported Tuesday, NBC's decision to give viewers the chance to hear from Nicholas Sandmann — the high school junior at the center of a series of libelous accusations and reports about an encounter between students from Kentucky's Covington Catholic High School and a Native American activist — prompted outrage from those who continue to portray the boys as cruel harassers, despite video evidence debunking that unfair characterization of events.

NBC has now released the full interview (below), which includes Sandmann defending his right to be there and underscoring that he was not disrespectful to the activist Nathan Philliips, who approached him, at times getting inches from his face, and later described the boys as "beasts."
Soon after the 3:45 carefully clipped video of the encounter between the students and Phillips went viral on Saturday, two hours of footage surfaced showing that Phillips' description of the event and most of the early reporting by mainstream media outlets was false. Rather than being the harassers, the boys were harassed by radical racial activist group Black Hebrew Israelites, which has been designated a "hate group" by the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center, who hurled racist and homophobic insults at the students. After hysterical critics called for the doxxing of the boys, some even encouraging violence against them, Sandmann issued a lengthy account of the incident that aligns far more with the full video footage than Phillips' widely reported account.
In his interview with "TODAY" co-host Savannah Guthrie, Sandmann made a point of saying that he respects Phillips and hopes to speak with him in person. While Sandmann defended his right to be there and his decision to remain calm in order to "defuse" the situation, as he said in his statement, he also said, "In hindsight, I wish we could've walked away and avoided the whole thing."
"Do you feel from this experience that you owe anybody an apology?" asked Guthrie. "Do you see your own fault in any way?"
"As far as standing there, I had every right to do so," Sandmann replied. "My position is that I was not disrespectful to Mr. Phillips — I respect him, I’d like to talk to him. In hindsight, I wish we could have walked away and avoided the whole thing, but I can’t say that I’m sorry for listening to him and standing there."
After the hostile campaign against him and his fellow classmates, which escalated to the point that school officials felt it necessary to cancel school on Tuesday, it's not suprising that Sandmann wishes the whole thing had never happened. Watch the interview below via "TODAY":

In his initial statements to the press, Phillips described the boys as "beasts" and said he believed he had inserted himself between them and their "prey," by whom he meant the BHI members that had called them "f*ggots" and "crackers" and told them to "go back to Europe." Phillips initially rejected an offer to speak with the boys, saying, "At first, I wanted the teachers and chaperones to be reprimanded — some fired — for letting this happen. For the students, I was against any expulsions, but now I have to revisit that." But amid mounting backlash, Phillips has reversed himself, issuing a statement in which he makes clear that he beleives Sandmann should "apologize" and accused him of lying:
I have read the statement from Nick Sandmann, the student who stared at me for a long time. He did not apologize, and I believe there are intentional falsehoods in his testimony. But I have faith that human beings can use a moment like this to find a way to gain understanding from one another.
After he approached the boys and became the central figure in the viral video, Phillips reportedly helped lead his activist group to crash the Saturday Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
NBC's announcement Tuesday that they interviewed Sandmann was met with outrage online. Some examples highlighted by Daily Wire's Josh Hammer which include comparing the high school boy to Hitler and racist mass murder Dylann Roof:

If we can organize boycotting Trump’s Oval Office address, we can certainly orchestrate a boycott of @TODAYshow and @SavannahGuthrie for at least week! Who’s in?

Do you think Pepe the Frog is available for Thursday’s show? Can Dylann Roof do a segment from prison? Heart-to-heart with some Fentanyl traffickers?

Well a new day and the left continues to double down on this story even after evidence has completely exonerated the kids and completely proven the fault lies with the adults. The left continues to defend the activists who have been proven to be hurling gay slurs. How do you justify that LGBT community?

This whole incident shows just how much power the mainstream media still has. No amount of actual evidence can counter act the initial false story. 50 years from now these sheep will still be convinced that these kids instigated the incident instead of the other way around like it actually happened.

It's disheartening to me. This story is the first time I've ever wondered whether the two sides in this country can ever be amicable again. I've always believed we have more in common than not, I'd still like to believe that, but this incident sure makes it hard.....so much delusion and hate is not healthy.

I agree it is disheartening but it comforts me to remember all we are seeing is the squeeky wheels. The vast majority of both sides of the political spectrum are not involved in these kind of stupid things. In fact you will note the same names (tweeters) keep coming up with these things.

I don't believe that the major divisions is between the people (the 80% of people somewhere in the middle).

These incidents show the solidarity of the media, the Democratic Party, the too-big for their britches Hollyweird elites, and the activist radicals on the left.

We can only hope that the majority of those somewhat left of center have acquired the ability of critical thinking and are not too lazy to find the truth.

I am certain that the 3-4 radicals that we have on this board are going to take exception to my comment (because they fall into that radical element, and I didn't mention the right), but frankly, there is nobody on the Right causing any problems that I am aware of.

The radicalism, racism and hatred is all coming from a minority on the left that have been given voices by the media.

The media is very good at taking the isolated outrage of a small vocal minority and making it seem like it’s the sentiment of the masses.

Not only do I think the fact that the media is giving these stories legs is the story in and of itself, I also believe it's going to have a Kavanagh like effect in the next election cycle. These types of things are a Godsend for the Republican party IMHO. If this continues, even left center folks are going to swing. No sensible person thinks government forced and managed socialism is the right way to go...and a lot of people are starting to understand the "stand down on your crazy freedom of ideas" mentality of the radical left is a violent Authoritian mindset. Unknowingly , the left leaning media is actually swinging things to the right in our country. The GOP may not be the smartest people in the room, but it's starting to appear they are the only sane ones.

If any in the Trump deranged crowd were willing to be introspective and honest about, it really doesn't matter to them that Trump has not done anything to completely implode the country, and aside from some normal fluctuations and uncertainty, things are not bad right now and some metrics indicate that they are downright good. This fact absolutely enrages the left as they have been cheering for a major economic downturn or war with Iran or North Korea.

Throw the whole white, middle-class high school kids wearing MAGA hats around DC and now you are looking at a full-blown, media driven rage-fest where kids supporting Trump is a crime against humanity, whereas NY legalizing full-on infanticide doesn't even register on their radar.

The Dems gained control of the US House the last election? Not sure how this vitriol hate from the left is swinging anything to the right?

At one point they were projected to take the House by much more and were also looking to squeak ahead in the senate. Then the polls swung back a little bit against them after the Kavanaugh stuff and I think their gains in the end were a disappointment to Dems and the MSM vs what they were hoping / expecting. I’m skeptical of polls so who know how accurate any of that was.

Maybe not, but I still have far more confidence in the general public at large than the polls leading us to believe something else...plus they gained control of the house by sheer numbers of seats open and being contested and didn't take the Senate. With a sitting new President this was actually better than normally happens. I do think this stuff is swinging the average person at least to the center...One can hope.

There's a desperation to say something "savage" and really just seem hardcore. Society is so damn annoying.
