Yeah yeah, all about football this week I get it. And I'll be there with bells on Saturday. BUT Sunday at 2 pm, we are going to have a cakewalk in GIA against an unranked Drexel squad in the world's best (oldest?) manly sport. By the end of the season you people are going to LOVE wrestling. Watch. Literally. Either go to GIA and watch, or watch on ESPN+ ,

Potential Lineups (rankings by Wrestlestat, because frankly, they are all within a few of each other, and its easier to find em all and goes out farther than 30. Sue me. If Coach Smith has more wrestleoffs and/or rankings change, will update)

125: #11 Trevor Mastrogiovanni v. #86 Antonio Mininno (5-4)
133: #1 Daton Fix v. #179 Deon Pleasant (3-6)
141: #246 Carter Young v. #131 Tyler Williams (3-5) (Lost to Dusty Hone 6-0 in 2019)
149: #21 Kaden Gfeller v. #42 Luke Nichter (7-1) INJURED so ??? Maybe #144 Gabe Onorato (6-5)
157: #21 Wyatt Sheets v. #55 Parker Kropman (10-2) (Got majored by Sheets 13-3 in 2019)
165: #6 Travis Wittlake v. #47 Evan Barczak (8-2)
174: #18 Dustin Plott v. #8 Michael O'Malley (8-0)
184: #8 Dakota Geer v. #54 Bran McLaughlin (6-2) (pinned and majored by Geer in 2019/20 season)
197: #1 AJ Ferrari v. #71 Sean O'Malley (0-1)
285: #44 Luke Surber v. #232 Liam Dietrich (1-5)

To be fair this is going to be a runaway, but the two big things to look for here is

1) The match at 174, which is only match Drexel will be favored in (slightly). O'Malley is 8-0 with 5 pins and 2 tech falls.

2) Bonus points. We really need to see our guys score some big bonus points against an outmanned team. 157 through 184 is clearly their strengths, and we have some guys with something to prove at those weights so will be fun to watch. 157 might be interesting since Sheets hasn't been dominating and Kropman has beaten a ranked guy early.

Homer Prediction: TF or Falls from 133, 184, 197. Major at 125, 285, 149. Final: 40-0 give or take a couple.

After this we are off for 2 weeks when we face OU on December 12 at 2:00 in Norman, which will be a much more competitive match.

bigbadbob-Thank you for your pre match and post match posts. Your threads are the best source for OSU wrestling and much appreciated by this fan. I am a basketball enthusiast. Grew up playing and coached a little. Have OSU season tickets. Have hd OSU season football tickets for 25 years.

But by far my favorite in person sport at OSU is wrestling. Going on 5 years of season tickets now and I wish more people would jump on board. For the entertainment value there is nothing like it. The only thing missing is a “Coach Smith Cam” in match. It’s worth the price just to watch him. He lives every second of every match like he’s back out there and when he doesn’t I’m guessing it’s bc he’s completely disgusted w what he’s watching. Having him mic’d up would be a bonus.

Thanks man. I appreciate it :)

He’s is especially funny when he jumps up and moves around like he’s doing the move himself lol. Incidentally; I’ve been trying to get KSPI to make his Monday coaches show available by pod so you don’t have to listen to it live every Monday. Hopefully they will listen.

I have had season tickets the past five years and the bleacher, floor, and 200 level sell out every year. I finally had enough priority points and upgraded to floor level this year. My guess is it will be packed Sunday due to people staying over from Bedlam game. They check your tickets for floor level and bleacher seats and won’t let you come down there without a ticket. I don’t think they have students in lower level and they are in 200 level. It does not seem they have large student attendance for wrestling.

Match starts at 2:00 pm so I typically get there 30- minutes early but I have Gold parking so I don’t have far to walk.

A little off topic but what happened with Balmeceda? Disappointed to see him transfer out. He looked like a lock as a future AA and potential national champ when we signed him.

OK People, so I know we all have a bedlam hangover, but thought you might appreciate a couple of updates.

Drexel wrestled yesterday against University of Arkansas Little Rock (Coached by former Cowboy Neil Erisman) and won 25-18.

#57 Kyle Waterman (4-2) got the start at 125 for Drexel (and got a MD) so look for him to maybe start against OSU rather than Minnono.

Other potential changes looking at the UALR match (with the understanding they may have withheld some of their guys):

141 (#116) Jared Donahue (3-5) lost in sudden victory to (#130) Conner Ward
149 (#131) Tyler Williams (3-6) lost by major decision to (#162) Joseph Bianchi
197 (#86) Santino Marina (1-0) beat (#142) Brooks Sacharczyk 6 to 0
285 (#200) Elijah Anthony (0-3) got pinned by (#111) Josiah Hill

Drexel's best guys did well:

Kropman, Barczak, O'Malley and McLughlin all won, O'Malley and McLaughlin both pinned their guys.

After the Bedlam victory my guess is that a few of our guys may have had a little too much fun, so I am revising my prediction: 35-3!

125: Mastro up early 2-0 against Waterman with a super quick takedown. Works hard for a turn, racking up over 2 and a half minutes of RT in the first before Waterman escapes right before end of 1. 2-1

2: Mastro takes bottom. Out easy. 3-1. Waterman active, and was halfway to a td but Mastro turns out. Mastro needs to get going on offense.

3: Waterman takes bottom and out easy. 3-2. Mastro riding time confirmed 4-2. Finally gets a takedown. 6-2. Waterman hits a switch but can’t get the full reverse but does get the escape. 6-3. That’s where it ends.

Not really in doubt but underwhelming start for OSU.

133: Fix with a slick TD against Pleasant. Escape pretty quick 2-1. Bear hug TD to a quick tilt for 4, making it 8-1 very fast. Pleasant turned again, up 12-1 in about 2 minutes. Pretty close to a pinning combo too. Fix rides him out. Great first period.

2: Fix down. Pleasant trying but Fix is just too much and out pretty quickly. 13-1. Fix in on a leg. Gets the TD, 15-1. Almost turned him again for a pin, but not quite then gets the turn. Then PIN!

Yeah BUDDY! That’s what you like to see from Daton!

141: Carter Young keeps up the quick td’s against Donahue. Escape quick. 2-1. Young right back on a leg and finishes 4-1. Tries to work a little, has nothing, so let’s him up. 4-2. Right back in on a slide by, 6-2, quick escape. 6-3. Right back on a TD, 8-3. Escape, 8-4. Young back on a leg of course. Finishes. 10-4. Restarts on top with 7 seconds left. Needs to hold him. Does. Great 1st from Young with 5 tds.

2: Young bottom, out easy. 11-4. On a leg again. Collects the legs. TD machine! 13-4. Working hard on top. Looking for a tilt, but can’t quite get it. Rides him out.

3: Donahue out easy. Low ankle, works to finish. Up 15-5. Riding time locked. 16-5. Has a wing and a half pinning combo but Donahue sneaks his head out. Donahue out. 16-6. Young back in on a leg! Finishes. 18-6 Major.

Hard to complain here, but some back points would have been good, just to see if the youngster has it in him yet. Best look from Young of the year. 8 takedowns.

149: Gfeller v Tyler Williams. Let’s see what G’s got today.

1: Feeling each other out. G on a single. Has to work a bit to finish and does. 2-0. Tries to suck him back, but Williams scrambled out. 2-1. Little duck under for G, 4-1. Williams rolls and they get weird in the scramble. No points. G tries a crab ride and Williams gets the reverse 4-3. G almost reverses the reverse but time expires. Refs review. Confirm.

2: G on bottom. Reverses to a PIN!

Result great, but the first period was sure squirrelly.

OSU up 19-0 through 4.

157: Sheets v Kropman. Should be a good match.

1: Feeling each other out. No score after a minute. Kropman good shot with a minute left but Sheets counters. No score. Sheets misses a shot at end of 1. Ankle pick at buzzer too.

2: Sheets chooses bottom. Easy escape. 1-0. Sheets in deep at the minute mark. Needs to finish. Working. Working. Does! 3-0. Mat return. 30 seconds left. And does.

3: Kropman on bottom. Sheets riding tough on a game Kropman. Has riding time but has a stalling warning. Sheets just holding on. Not much going on from top, but riding time confirmed. 4-0. Gets the near fall as time expires (almost a pin!) 8-0
Major at last minute!

First half done. Really good wrestling by the pokes. Only Mastro didnt dominate.

Wittlake v. Barczak

1: not much action for 2 minutes then Wittlake in on a lightning quick double. 2-0. Not close to a turn, but 58 seconds RT as time expires.

2: Wittlake escapes after about 10, up 3-0. Ankle pick, to a TD (5-0) working on top. Roll off mat. Has RT. Ends 2nd there.

3: Barczak takes bottom. Wittlake optional start to let him out 5-1. High crotch to finish on edge. Up 7-1. Let’s him up, 7-2. Goes for a double, but too far away. Back to a tie. Off the mat. Barczak loses a point for backing off mat. 8-2. Posts the head and spins around for another TD. Then escape. 10-3 plus RT. Snap down to finish. 12-3. Has RT 13-3 Major. Good stuff.

174: Plott v O’Malley match of the day:

1: Both parties like the ties. Working on control. Nothing much for 2 minutes. Action picks up a bit but no real shots. Ends 0-0. BORING!

2: Plott chooses bottom. Plott out in 15 seconds. 1-0. Finally a shot a minute in by Plott. In deep but ref stops it. O’Malley leaves his feet to back trip and gets a penalty point. 2-0. Single left bu Plott 4-0. Escape by O’Malley 4-1.

3: O’Malley out easy. 4-2. No RT. Plott quick on a leg. Stacks him. Looking to turn on for the 2. Working. Working. O’Malley holding on to an ankle for dear life. Stalemate. Tied up. O’Malley goes for a throw, but Plott ends up on top. 6-2. Escape. 6-3. Good stuff there. O’Malley gambled and lost but I don’t blame him.

OSU up 30-0. Shoulda stayed with my initial prediction. Guess the football win fired them up not tired them out.
