Tell me this isn’t really happening.

To varying degrees, our peer institutions in the new hodgepodge are KU, KSU, ISU, Tech, and WVU. The other six do not share either the same profile, mission, or commitment to athletics. Why would Kansas and Kansas State ever allow Wichita State into their conference?

Tell me this isn’t really happening.

Schools like OSU. Major state institutions, high research activity, committed to athletics - the schools we keep losing from this conference and replacing with commuter and church schools. It's not just about particular sports teams or their success level. That stuff is temporary at best.

And we never will be adding schools like Gonzaga. I'm absolutely stunned by how many of our fans seem to be actually happy that we're going to be considered a peer to schools like that instead of schools that actually should be our peers.

Would really rather not have another mid-major in the conference. There are too many already, and that hurts us in the long run.

Big12 Strikes 6 year Media Deal with ESPN/Fox

Good news only in that it wasn't a cut. We'll tread water instead. It's still third place in a two-horse race, and we're still going to fall behind nationally as an athletic program because of it.

    No more Bedlam

Good. I'm more disappointed seeing that we still plan to schedule them in everything else than I am that the football game is dying. They made it clear that they don't value the rivalry, and we should be responding in kind. But practically, in the long-term, those games are also going to hurt...

    Demo of Old Buildings

Partially. Part of the Seretean is a shell over the Auditorium you see in the background of the photo, which was renovated into the Concert Hall. The rest of it was new construction that covers the space between the two buildings and part of the Williams Hall footprint. The rest of the Williams...

Big 12 to meet to consider 6 new teams(PAC)

In this scenario, they're also going to want to give as many desirable timeslots and assignments as possible to the super conferences, and that's going to hurt just as much as the difference in payout. Anyone really want to have Tuesday night games just to get on ESPNU? I don't, and that kind of...

USC and UCLA to the BIG10 in 2024

The offer they can't refuse is going to come from ESPN or Fox. The Big 12 doesn't have anywhere near the money you're suggesting it spend, and it's not going to come in the next media deal either. And I think expecting an expanded playoff is wishful thinking. These are consolidation moves for...

USC and UCLA to the BIG10 in 2024

The networks will buy off all of those schools except Utah for the B1G and SEC. The Big 12 can't afford that kind of move, and even if it could, why would any of those schools join when the opportunity to join the superconferences will be given to them?

USC and UCLA to the BIG10 in 2024

It was supposed to be the Big 12 South minus Baylor, and Colorado. It leaked before everything was finalized and there were rumblings Baylor alumni were going to try to force Baylor in CU's place, so CU went first to block that.

Pac still has bigger brands right now. If Oregon and Washington bounce, then it's a different story.

    It's the old Big East.

    TBP renovations?

But consider the source - is it anyone connected to Mizzou saying they're unhappy, or just the OSU radio jockeys trying to draw an audience?

    Big-12 Year in Sports 2021/2022....

I think we already know that answer is no, or the networks would have paid to make it happen a few years ago. Instead, they paid us more not to do it.

    Cowboy Baseball

And they just announced some revised renderings for stadium improvements earlier this week as well. Combine all that with their pending move and the associated money, and it's not going to matter at all that Josh beats them a lot in the regular season.

    TBP renovations?

Bingo. Just because the Big 12 is bringing in four currently-competitive football teams doesn't mean broadcasters and playoff selectors are going to consider the league in the same way. And outside of football, only BYU is ready to pull its weight in a major conference. The others have a lot of...

    TBP renovations?

For winning conference trophies, the Big 12. But for finances and ability to win national titles, the SEC. The Learfield Director's Cup posted standings earlier this week. We are 25th, and that was third-highest in the conference behind OU and Texas. We are the leader for schools the Big 12 is...

    TBP renovations?

Don't forget that we know the pending renovations to the stadium will decrease capacity, but we haven't been told by how much. If that's substantial, we may need new construction if we hope to keep the attendance similar.

    OSU's Year in Sports 2021-22

All four track teams were also-rans, but both cross country teams won conference championships. Men's CC was 3rd at nationals, women were 13th.
