The Clemson/FSU news changes things a little more and I think puts heat on B1G to make a move.
If B1G and SEC decide to go to 20 teams, I feel confident that OSU would find a "P3" conference. It isn't as strong as the SEC, but it would be stable. I used the teams that have been discussed the...
B1G talks a lot about AAU money, even though it is attached to the schools and not the conference.
It is almost as if they are in collusion during the research grant proposals to make sure they support each other and guarantee the money.
Their summary was:
If B1G thinks the SEC is trying to rule of world. B1G will go after Duke, GTech, NCarolina, Virginia (all AAU)
If B1G doesn't think the SEC is trying to rule the world. B1G will stand pat or add Iowa State and Kansas.
A lot of it was based on if SEC goes after Clemson/Fla...
That is the biggest debate I get into about this.
B1G has two choices:
Keep their AAU requirement and not compete with the SEC in football
Get schools with strong football/athletics and keep the gap small with the SEC.
Chalmers shot was one of the reasons that Self stayed at KU and didn't go to OSU. Or at least there was a lot of speculation that he would have probably went to OSU if they didn't win the Championship.
This 100%. If it becomes one or two super conference that runs everything, then they will have killed the golden goose. It is one thing to try and be the best conference, it is completely another thing to try and alienate over 50% of the college football fans by destroying other major...
The $9M number that keeps getting thrown around was a comment from one person who works for the side paying money out. Obviously it would be considerably less than $37M, but $9M is a dream contract for FOX/ESPN/CBS when considering the draw that some of the remaining teams pull in plus...
If we end up in a 16 team B1G or PAC, I hope they use a pod system and not two 8 team divisions.
With a division system and 9 conference games it will take 8 years to complete a home and home series with teams in the other division.
With the pod system and 9 conference games you would complete...
That is an interesting article.
OSU finished a distant 3rd place (3 full games back) in a 4 way tie. We were 1-3 after 4 games. I would expect the viewership to be down that year.
I think it may indicate that more people associated with OU and Texas would rather watch them play Oklahoma...
I would rather OSU go and get a OOC game against a P5 in the Southeast, Midwest, or West coast, than play an additional game in the state of Oklahoma. Obviously the OOC game location depends on what conference OSU ends up in.
That would be the end of college football. It would basically kill off half of the fan base and only have 12 to 16 games per week to peddle. That would be suicide for ESPN and college football and cap their potential earnings in half.
This may still happen if the B1G cherry-picks the PAC and...
