Official Game Thread: Oklahoma State vs. Boise State

Blue uni's on a blue field. Seems like that would be a little distracting for the QBs. Will be like a bunch of smurfs running around out there.

    Gundy job status

We do this every season but you're spot on. Ask the UT's - Texas and Tennessee - how fun it is to ride the coaching carousel. While you're at it check in with UH, Florida State, Louisville, Arkansas, etc. etc. Plenty of other examples. I'm solidly on the Gundy bandwagon. Having said that...

That's a good point. They need a Boone-sized investment to really make their facilities competitive. Without an ultra-wealthy booster stepping forward, maybe a bump in their TV revenue would get them at least part of the way there. They would definitely travel in a lot more fans from visiting...

I used to live in Orlando about 5 miles from the UCF campus and my wife got her PHD there. It was always a great mystery to us how they have such a large student enrollment. You certainly don't see it when you walk across the campus. Definitely feels like a commuter school. The bigger issue is...

Probably so. TCU seemed to get a nice recruiting bump when they joined the B12. Same will probably happen with UH. They still have to get over the stigma of basically being a glorified community college though. I lived in Houston for quite awhile and UH doesn't get a lot of academic respect...

Good grief. Sounds like our situation is utterly hopeless. We should just ring up the AAC and pray they'll take us now. Maybe drop down to Div II.

Haven't seen this point raised before but you're spot on. My interest in watching games starts to wane if / when we get to the point in the season we're mathematically eliminated from competing for the conference championship. At that point it's just about jockeying to see who goes to which...

You must not have attended OSU games back in the Simmons era. We didn't exactly pack the stands when we were perennial doormats either. Wasn't much fun watching those games back then.

Good analysis. This is all about TV revenue. In spite of our sentimental attachments to traditional college football conferences, Nothing else really matters. The accountants are going to make these decisions.

That's some good knowledge right there.

Fun fact - UCF is the largest university in the country with 65k+ total enrollment. I used to live in Orlando was constantly amazed by that fact. My wife got her doctorate there. Their campus felt more like a community college. So did their football stadium.

KU is literally a one-sport school. Would any major conference make a re-alignment decision just to get a bump in basketball?? If anything, you'd lose football revenue by bringing them in. We don't even want to watch their games in the Big 12 now. Can't imagine anyone in Michigan or Ohio is...

That solves our short-term scheduling problem (assuming OU/Texit happens sooner) but what does PAC get out of it? Is playing TCU or T-Tech going to give them any appreciable TV revenue bump over some other OOC team they might otherwise play?? Seems marginal at best.

Big 12 Realignment thread, 2021 version

I'm not seeing the rationale for a "scheduling alliance" vs. a merger. Assuming Bowlsby is representing the "remaining 8"'s interests (and not his own), what's the upside to an alliance?? Under the alliance scenario, both conferences would still have separate TV contracts so are we counting...

Stoops was just feeding red meat to the OU fan base. Who else gives a **** what their ex-football coach has to say.
