This isn't just about asylum seekers. It's about illegals as well and the large number of children being brought in as shields, and people claiming asylum after they break the law rather than going to the check points.
It wasn't a story under past POTUS because past POTUS didn't enforce the law. And now you know why. Both Obama and Bush would have had this narrative on them had they enforced the law, but they didn't.
It not a dislike of Trump that should be the focus of this story, it should be just exactly how Congress has failed for decades when it comes to immigration policy.
As it stands right now, there is ZERO re-unification policy
If kids weren't being held in what you're calling internment camps then why did Glenn Beck go to McAllen Texas in 2014 with food and clothing and water and try to get the media to come there to see the need and the problems that were occurring with immigration policy due to the law signed by Bill Clinton that was enforced by Obama or these kids would not have been there.
This isn't just about asylum seekers. It's about illegals as well and the large number of children being brought in as shields, and people claiming affiliated after they break the law rather than going to the check points.
It is a tough problem. No one has really had a good answer too. That is why it is still a problem. It has been an issue since before Reagan and is still a problem today. And no Republican or Democrat has had any viable answer.
“The President’s Executive Order seeks to replace one form of child abuse with another. Instead of protecting traumatized children, the President has directed his Attorney General to pave the way for the long-term incarceration of families in prison-like conditions.”
-- Nancy Pelosi yesterday in response to Trump's EO
Kenneth Wolfe the Spox for the Admin for Children and Families from the HHS confirms that WH made a decision the EO signed yesterday will not be retroactive to the 2300 immigrant children currently being detained separated from their families.
Later last night the Senior Director of the Admin for Children and Families said that Wolfe had misspoke and said it is still early and that reunification is always the goal with immigrant children and the agency is awaiting further direction from the WH about those currently detained.
Arrest: to seize (a person) by legal authority or warrant; take into custody
Detain: to keep under restraint or in custody.
From Black's Law Dictionary:
Detention: The act of keeping back or withholding, either accidentally or by design, a person or thing.
Arrest: To keep a person in lawful custody. A warrant, crime, or statute can authorize this.
The parents are facing a legal issue at the border, trying to enter the country illegally. They are being detained or arrested, choose whatever word you want, but they are being taken into custody because they have violated the law. Do you want them to also arrest the children so that we can keep the family together? Would that be moral? What exactly do you want them to do with the children?
A Customs and Border Patrol official told the Washington Post last night that they had been instructed to stop holding and sending immigrant parents with children to federal courthouses to face criminal charges immediately.
The customs official said they were instructed that migrant parents and children will be temporarily detained, given a court date to appear and then released from custody due to being told ICE had no more space to hold people in custody until ICE can accelerate their resources and capability to allow room to hold more people
The DOJ responded to the story saying it was false saying there was no change to the DOJ's zero tolerance policy to prosecute adults who cross the border illegally instead of claiming asylum at any port of entry at the border.
