So I was listening to the Sports Animal this morning and apparently A&M wanted to beef up their resume before their first SEC game so they are claiming, and it's posted on their marque at Kyle Field, two more national titles prior to 1930 and also the 2007 (I think) Big 12 Championship, when the lost in the title game to Nebraska, and the 2010 Big 12 Championship, when OU played in the title game. That was the year A&M and OU and OSU (there, now it's OSU related!) tied for the south title.

Technically... in 2010 there was a 3 way tie for the regular season Big 12 title. Didn't we also give out players rings or something for that year? And Stoops was asked about it and he said someting along the lines of "All I know is we have a trophy and a banner that says 2010 Big 12 champions on it"

Our rings were for being division champs.

I don't mind the national titles thing so much (there's a number of programs that claim unofficial championships from that era) but the conference thing bothers me.

At least the conference thing bothers you.

As for the NCs.. Just because someone else does it, doesn't make it right. At the end of the day it's still pretty lame to claim championships 85+ years later.

OSU was #1 in a couple of polls in 1945 and you NEVER see OSU fans claiming a national championship for that year.

But I guess aTm is just trying to fit in with Alabama, since they claim about 8 championships of the same caliber where some obscure newspaper ranked them #1.

Apparently it doesn't bother the Big 12:

Notice the title says "Big 12 Championships" not "Big 12 Conference Championships." The Big 12 gives out division and conference championships.

The aggy justification on this is just awesome. Why are these things acceptable to count today when they weren't yesterday? What has changed?

When they joined the SEC they immediately became Championship caliber.

I think we also finished #1 in some random poll last year didn't we? Let's claim it!

Apparently it doesn't bother the Big 12:

  1. You said it bothered you.
  2. If this is printed by the Big 12 then they F'd up and left off our Co-Championship.
    1. That F up is fine with me though.

It's for 2011 so I'm guessing that is the co-division championship and it was printed before our actual 2012 championship.

It also seems weird that they would count co-division championships, but not tournament championships in baseball and basketball. Guess it does just say Regular Season though.

I'm not justifying anything. You'll note I've already said it bothered me and I'd prefer we didn't claim them, and most people I've talked to feel the same way. I can at least see where it's coming from now though.
