Boo Lewallen was officially granted a sixth year of eligibility to wrestle according to Oklahoma State’s roster bio of the former All-American.

Lewallen, who has had an injury-riddled career, suffered two major shoulder injuries last season and was unable to complete a full match for the Cowboys. The first dual of the season he went down with a shoulder injury vs. South Dakota State. His first match back after South Dakota State was against Iowa State where he suffered a similar shoulder injury. His injury in the Iowa State dual ended his season.

Lewallen’s initial request for a medical redshirt was denied as the rule state’s a wrestler that competes in the second half of the season will not be granted a medical redshirt. When extenuating circumstances such as Lewallen’s happen, the athlete is allowed to write a letter to the NCAA requesting an exception to that rule. Boo wrote that letter and according to the Oklahoma State roster, that exception and medical hardship waiver has been granted.

Boo is currently ranked 4th in the country at 149 pounds according to FloWrestling and is undefeated on the season. Lewallen will finish this season out as a redshirt junior and compete his final season next year as a redshirt senior.
