The Oklahoma State Cowboys take on a talented Florida Gulf Coast team that went 12-2 in conference this season, and although they have multiple talented players on their roster, their most dynamic player is senior guard Brandon Goodwin. The former Central Florida transfer is averaging over 18 points per game and, when active, has only failed to score in double digits on three occasions this season. If the Cowboys want to stop the Eagle offense, they’re going to have to limit the impact of the Atlantic Sun Player of the Year, which is easier said than done.

Goodwin does it all for the Eagles. He’s one of just eight players in the country to lead his team in points, rebounds and assists. Although he’s not a strong shooter, Goodwin is a talented downhill-style guard and is at his best around the basket. His style resembles former Cowboy Jawun Evans, although Goodwin is a bit taller at 6-2 and relies more on his court vision and driving skills than handles and jump shots.

He’s an excellent driver both to his right hand:

And his left hand:

And looks to push the ball down the court, especially in transition, even when there’s not an offensive advantage:

He gets a number of his assists off the drive when the interior collapses on him, often giving his forwards easy opportunities to convert:

And the Eagles’ system fits him, too. They’re guard-heavy, as their top four leading scorers are all guards, and their swing-motion style of offense often spreads the court and allows Goodwin room to operate.

The Cowboys have faced plenty of talented guards up to this point, and if they can limit Goodwin’s production on Tuesday, they give themselves an excellent chance to run the Eagles out of the building.

Do you think the Cowboys will be able to shut down Goodwin and the Eagles’ offense? Leave your opinions in the comments below!
