Preseason Big 12 Football Picks

USAToday has the Cowboys in the middle of the pack in their preseason picks.

5. Oklahoma State
The Cowboys have finished under .500 in Big 12 play just once since 2007. No one talks about Oklahoma State’s consistency, of course, if largely due to rival OU’s ownership of the Big 12 during this span. But it’s why picking OSU to do any worse than seven or eight wins during the regular season seems like a foolish bet. Yeah, there’s a huge hole at quarterback and wide receiver, and the team as a hole is one of the least experienced in the entire FBS. But Mike Gundy will have OSU in the mix. There’s also reason to believe the Cowboys will improve dramatically from September to November. [USAToday]

Here’s a warm take – OSU is the new K-State: bet against them at your own risk/peril.

A Stellar Holliday Stat

This is an awfully impressive number for Josh Holliday’s Pokes.

The second-place conference finish marked the fifth time in six seasons under Josh Holliday that OSU has finished either first or second in the league standings. []
Depth Across the Athletic Department

Oklahoma State has loads of titles compared to other schools but how do they compare to their peers in the 2017-2018 year?

26. Oklahoma State
Top 2017-18 sport: men’s golf (national champion). Trajectory: Down.

The Cowboys tumbled out of the top 30 for the first time in the five-year window, landing at No. 32 this year. When you only sponsor 14 varsity sports, a down season in a couple of them hurts. [YahooSports]
OSU and NCAA Notes

Some solid conclusions in “How do you build a good defense in the Big 12?“…..Get to know incoming quarterback Dru Brown through the eyes of his old Hawaii teammate….Marcus Smart out here beating the pavement to get that offer

Death, taxes and SEC fans attempting to downgrade Big 12 offenses.

Bruh, A&M brought Johnny and the Air Raid to the SEC and much of the league responded like a secluded tribe seeing an airplane for the first time.

Yo, Iowa State – leave the black unis to teams who actually have black as one of their colors. Sign me up for the white though.
