One of the best running backs to ever come out of Oklahoma State will have his jersey retired by the team he led to great success in the NFL.

The Buffalo Bills announced Wednesday that they intend to retire the No. 34 jersey of Thurman Thomas when they host the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football this season on Oct. 29. He’ll be the third Bills player to have his jersey retired, joining Jim Kelly and defensive end Bruce Smith.

Thomas has already been enshrined into both the College and Pro Football Hall of Fame after entering the NFL in 1988 out of OSU as a second-round draft pick.

During his 12 seasons in Buffalo (and one season with the Miami Dolphins), Thomas accumulated 12,074 yards rushing and 65 touchdowns, as well as 4,458 yards receiving and 23 scores through the air.

Thomas finished off his NFL career as Buffalo’s all-time leader in yards rushing and rushing touchdowns, and still holds the Oklahoma State all-time record for yards rushing over a career with 5,001.
