Today the NCAA granted a blanket exception to any one who wanted to open their College Football season with a "week 0" game on Aug 29th.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-f...llowing-teams-to-play-in-week-0-if-necessary/

So should be see if Tulsa or W. Illinois would like to open our season on Aug 29th? Tulsa is open. W. Illinois is open, although they do have a Thursday night September 3rd game that would make for a short week for them.

Personally, I would not mind playing Tulsa on Aug 29th if they were willing to move the game.

Thoughts?

While I do find it odd that Gundy's June 1 idea got him absolutely nuked, when numbers were lower btw, and now opinions have shifted to 'it's a good idea to move things up a weak' as we see numbers spiking, I'm all for moving it up a week.

looking for another opponent to take the 29th. byu is still in play. but so is one of a couple directional schools. good reason to play 29th, gives you time to recover anyone who might contract covid and recover before the next game.

If for no other reason, it'll give us an extra week of practice after that first game to work on things. When does fall camp start? We would still want a full fall camp so the decision needs to be made in time to move the reporting date back a week.

RA said on his radio show today he's hearing that the Big 12 is looking at either a 9 game conference schedule or a 10 game schedule with 1 non-conference game.

The SEC is set to announce their decision on scheduling later today. The Big 12 will probably announce their decision in the next few days.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I would hate to see the season shortened, but it appears that might happen.

Reading the tea leaves, it seems pretty likely that the conference games +1 model is coming to the SEC & Big 12 also. Selfishly, I was kinda glad the PAC12, B1G & ACC all beat the SEC to the punch on this one.

All in for August 29 game. I'm ready for some college football action. Hell if the goons want to go on the 29th, lets play them.

So now ACC is at 11 games and SEC just announced 10 games.

So Big12 has to at least go with 1 or 2 non-con games so that we are not penalized with the "missing data point" for CFP?

how about SEC vs big xii non conference? we kick it off with the goons playing bama at Jerry's World and then use placings in the conference to assign games between the conferences.

I would rather start mid/late September, more time for things to settle out (hopefully), and I don't mind giving up 2 more nonconference games (still wish we had Or.St.). Missing 90+ degree kickoffs won't hurt my feelings this year.

SEC is joining the B1G and PAC12 in playing conference only games. So P5 opponents for the +1 would come from the ACC or from independents.
Would a Group 5 be worth the effort to boost SOS vs the other Conferences that will have 10 Power 5 games or will Navy, Army, and BYU have to play multiple Big12 teams so that we all get a 10th Power 5 game ?
(can't see Big 12 agreeing to sending 10 teams to play away games with ACC)

I don't see Army and Navy, but BYU could follow Notre dame and just join the Big 12 for this season.
