I was watching that game and swore the Chiefs should have been wearing orange. That type of stuff usually only happens to OSU in Stillwater.

The ref said "Because he was in shotgun, he is an eligible receiver." I thought anyone was eligible to catch a deflection?

It's still a forward pass beyond the line of scrimmage so I think that is the reason it has to be an eligible receiver.

I have seen linemen who are not eligible catch a deflected pass.

Edit:
From NFL rule book
ELIGIBLE RECEIVERS
Article 5 Eligible Receivers.
The following players are eligible to catch a forward p
ass that is thrown from
behind the line of scrimmage.
(a) Defensive players.
(b) Offensive players who are on either end of the lin
e, provided they either have the numbers of eligible
players (1-49 and 80-89) or have legally reported to pl
ay a position on the end of the line. See 5-1-2.
(c) Offensive players who are legally at least one ya
rd behind the line at the snap, provided they either
have the numbers of eligible players (1-49 and 80-89)
or have legally reported to play a position in the
backfield.
(d) All other offensive players after the ball has be
en touched by any defensive player or any eligible
offensive player.

Refs were horrible the whole game so it is not a surprise they don't know what they are talking about

He was definitely beyond the line of scrimmage on that one. Real shame. Maybe next year will be the year that Andy Reid will lead the Chiefs to the Super Bowl.
