per unconfirmed report I've seen...200 People have refused to evacuate Ocracoke Island NC. This is a true island with no road to it only ferry service. The Ferry service has now stopped and no emergency repose will be able to reach the island as the Hurricane approaches. The storm surge headed toward the island is expected to cover the entire island in water.

What is wrong with people??

Brig Gen James Glynn had ordered all Marines to evacuate Parris Island and relocate to Georgia, however after the SC Gov rescinded evacuation orders as the storm path shifted North only nonessential personnel and families were allowed to evacuate Parris Island. Most of the 8,000 Marines at Parris Island will remain on base during the storm

Camp Lejeune NC has released nonessential personnel from duty and told them they were free to evacuate with their families as long as they are within a 500 mile radius of the base .

Brig Gen Julian Alford did not issue a mandatory evacuation for Camp Lejeune which is in the path of the storm, and said those who wish to stay could and would have access to the emergency food, water, and other protections at the base. There are 40,000 active duty troops stationed at Lejeune but 75% of them live off base

The majority of the 82nd Airborne Division helicopter Fleet has been evacuated from Fort Bragg NC and moved to two locations in GA

The Navy has issued an emergency evacuation order for active duty, civilian personnel their families, and reservists in coastal Virginia

The Navy has also launched over 30 ships away from the Virginia coast line to move out of the path of the storm

The US Air Force and Virginia National Guard has moved most of their jets from the VA coast to Ohio including the Langley-Eustis based F 22 Raptors and T-38 jets

Latest 1pm update from Hurricane hunter flight shows max sustained winds down to 125mph dropping it from Cat 4 to Cat 3. still expected to strengthen back to Cat 4 tonight and tomorrow before making land fall as Cat 4 or high end Cat 3 late tomorrow night or early Friday

National Weather Service says that while top sustained winds have decreased, the overall size of the wind field has increased

Those will be the same people that, IF they survive, will be screaming for the federal govt to rescue them, provide food, water, housing etc and complain about the govt response to the storm. I have a hard time conjuring up sympathy for these people.

5pm update in from NWS. Still Cat 3. Sustained winds 120mph. Wind gust up to 150mph.

NWS says Tropical force winds should start impacting the Coast between 8pm TONIGHT and 8am Tomorrow. TS force winds (39mph+) extend 200 miles in all directions from the center of the storm.. Land based Radar starting to pick up the first of the outer rain bands for the storm right now

Latest track expects to make land fall as a cat 3 early Friday Morning and then bounce down the Coast making its way from Wilmington to Myrtle Beach for 24 (holy crap!!!) hrs before moving inland

This updated forecast with a slow churn along the coast has pushed some rain estimates up to the 60" range with catastrophic flooding expected
