He should be charged with assault.

He should never be allowed to play organized sports at any level for the rest of his life. That includes his purported probability of winning the state wrestling championship.

Why does Danny Almonte keep popping up in my head??

From ESPN article:

EDINBURG, Texas -- A Texas high school football player charged onto the field and bowled over a referee Thursday night because he was angry after being ejected from the game.

Senior defensive lineman Emmanuel Duron of Edinburg High School came running from the sideline area after the referee announced the ejection, slamming into the official during the first half of the zone play-in game against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo.

Duron was escorted from the stadium by police officers.

The Monitor of McAllen reported the referee was evaluated for a concussion by medical personnel at the stadium.

The game resumed after a delay, with Edinburg winning 35-21 to advance to the playoffs.

The District 31-6A Defensive Player of the Year last season, Duron also is the Bobcats' kicker and punter and a star wrestler.

The District 31-6A Defensive Player of the Year last season, Duron also WAS the Bobcats' kicker and punter and a star wrestler.

I've read every article I can find to try to find one that states why he was ejected to start with. Still no luck; really curious what started this whole fiasco.

Edit-found it.
Texas star high school football player attacks referee after ejection | Fox News

"Edinburg senior defensive end Emmanuel Duron, who was the player of the year in his district last season, was ejected for shoving an opposing offensive lineman to the ground and tried to tackle the quarterback after the officials had already blown the play dead, according to The Monitor."

Also from the same article:

"According to The Monitor, Duron was also suspended during the 2019-20 soccer season because of a similar incident during a match."

I'd bet we'll hear a lot more about this kid, but it won't be athletics performance-related

Edinburg High School player facing assault charge for knocking over ref; team removed from Texas football playoffs (espn.com)

Team jerked from playoffs, kid facing assault charges.
Also he got a couple Personal Fouls. Sounds like the aforementioned unsportsmanlike/roughing from shoving a lineman & hitting the QB after the whistle, followed by another for jawing at the same ref that he charged.

WTF?
The Yahoo story about this had a quote about that may explain the team being removed .

The Texas Association of Sports Officials released a statement on Friday describing the incident as a “vicious and deliberate assault.” The TASO statement noted that this type of incident is “not new to Texas football,” a reference to a 2015 incident in which San Antonio high school football players attacked a referee during a game.

Well it could be worse. They have killed some soccer refs on the field in some Latin American countries.

Is that in reference to the clip where the whole team repeatedly takes shots at a ref during play several times in a row? I remember seeing one of those, but it didn't have much in the way of context or story with it....

Good lord, this story popped up on my facebook feed so I decided to browse through the comments. Someone said...."We don't know the whole story, there's no telling what the ref said to him to make him react that way." Sigh.
