It was funny. That being said, the media is being petty at this point.

I guess that explains how they got through to that line. While the prank was funny, it sure has a lot of butthurt from the media to show their petty BS.

Widespread acceptance within the media (or any population) doesn't mean its actually right.

In this case, I think Gundy took a slightly dictatorial approach to this, but from his perspective, it was just the best thing for the current players, and he couldn't care less about the media. I respect that.

The media is nothing more than a for-profit industry that sometimes benefits society, but more often just does whatever it takes to stay relevant. In this case, the media as a whole got its feathers ruffled over essentially a tiny issue. Controversy sells, I suppose.

Ironically, Gundy might have caused more media coverage as a result of his request than if he had just let them ask a few questions and just instructed the players to give some basic playerspeak when asked.[/QUOTE]

What I've said from the beginning. It's PR 101, & more importantly, this is by NO means the last guy that's gonna transfer under the new rules.

Oh, & Rack, when you're done washing Gundy's car, he'd like you to walk the dog.

When I thought it was some journalism students it was pretty funny. I disagreed with Gundy's approach to the whole deal and didn't really think it was a good look honestly. People can disagree. It's whatever. Now that I know it was actual media members who did it, it's not that funny and looks super petty. At least Jenni Carlson put her name on the Bobby Reid article and Thayer Evans on his hit-piece.

I wonder how that goes when you have to tell your boss that you can't cover Big 12 coach's press conferences anymore because you got banned for prank calls.

Hell, their boss was probably one of the perps doing it too.

Thayer Evans put Pete Thamel's name on his hit piece.

so, would you guys be just as butt hurt if the all the players answered the McClesky question w/ "no comment"?
I wouldn't. The press has a right to ask questions and people have the right to tell them to bugger off. It would show team unity and that they listened to their coach.

I understand what some are saying that Gundy chose to be the lightning rod because the press might be butthurt with the players if they did this.

I kind of figured it was someone like those at certain other blogs the whole time, that or local radio morons, which I realize in Oklahoma is redundant to say. The calls always seemed a little frat-tastic too me.

I think the whole situation could've been handled better. Just have the players say no comment and tell the reporters you aren't going to speak about someone who isn't on your team anymore. The whole situation would've blown over.

With that said, the response by certain media members is sad and makes them look even worse, IMO.
