Congressman Warns of Obama Dictatorship

WASHINGTON — A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist or fascist dictatorship.

"It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he's the one who proposed this national security force," Rep. Paul Broun said of Obama in an interview Monday with The Associated Press. "I'm just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may — may not, I hope not — but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism."

Broun cited a July speech by Obama that has circulated on the Internet in which the then-Democratic presidential candidate called for a civilian force to take some of the national security burden off the military.

"That's exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did," Broun said. "When he's proposing to have a national security force that's answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he's showing me signs of being Marxist."

Obama's comments about a national security force came during a speech in Colorado about building a new civil service corps. Among other things, he called for expanding the nation's foreign service and doubling the size of the Peace Corps "to renew our diplomacy."

"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," Obama said in July. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

Broun said he also believes Obama likely will move to ban gun ownership if he does build a national police force.

Obama has said he respects the Second Amendment right to bear arms and favors "common sense" gun laws. Gun rights advocates interpret that as meaning he'll at least enact curbs on ownership of assault weapons and concealed weapons. As an Illinois state lawmaker, Obama supported a ban on semiautomatic weapons and tighter restrictions on firearms generally.

"We can't be lulled into complacency," Broun said. "You have to remember that Adolf Hitler was elected in a democratic Germany. I'm not comparing him to Adolf Hitler. What I'm saying is there is the potential."

Obama's transition office did not respond immediately to Broun's remarks.

What the heck is Obama wanting to create? There is already two or more National Security forces that are funded. They are Border Patrol (could be beefed up and given fire in no-man zone), FBI, ATF, DEA, CIA, Federal Department of Wildlife, National Guard, and the NSA.

He already has enough that are eating away at our tax dollars.

WASHINGTON — A Republican congressman from Georgia said..........

It was Obama who said it.

"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," Obama said in July. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

Can we have a serious discussion from the right and left, with out some of "fear, smear mentality."?

Obama gave a speech where he said "We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," Obama said in July. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

What type of force is he speaking of? New Black panthers, or just another type of law enforcement? If it is just law enforcement why do we need something else. Who would control it? Why would it need to be just as powerful as the military and as well funded?

He has been criticized for this statement and it has been said that the Germans had the same type of force. (Fear tactic)

I would like one reason why we need this force.

This statement is like others by Obama. All these questions about what he has said and done and no response from Obama on them. Other than to glaze them over as questions that shouldn't be asked of him.

He has responded to them. I posted a story in that other thread of his response to a question in an interview from a Conservative site. And when I did, someone said "Yeah, he can make up whatever he wants five days later."

Just five days later, the July 7 issue of Defense News published an interview in which Obama elaborated on his goals.

“I believe we can reconfigure our civilian national-security force. We still have a national security apparatus on the civilian side, in the way the State Department is structured and USAID, that harkens back to the Cold War,” Obama said.

“We need to be able to deploy teams that combine agricultural specialists and engineers and linguists and cultural specialists who are prepared to go into some of the most dangerous areas alongside our military,” he said.

Such proposals sound either like the creation of new programs or the expansion of existing ones, said Brian Darling, director of Senate Relations for the conservative Heritage Foundation.

“He clearly leans toward the diplomacy side in world affairs,” Darling told CNSNews.com. “Foreign aid, agriculture aid, using federal tax dollars to buy a country’s affections is one element of diplomacy. But I hope he realizes that having a strong military is another form of diplomacy.”

Hard to imagine calling agricultural specialists, engineers, linguists and cultural specialists a national security force?
