Georgia Tech coach Josh Pastner has asserted that the 2019 signing class needs to be great. What Buford High guard Marcus Watson announces Sunday could go a long way to determining how likely that is.
Watson, a four-star prospect rated as high as No. 45 in the class, has indicated that he will make public his decision between Tech, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Oregon. It’s believed that the two most likely candidates are Tech and Oklahoma State. Watson may have given a hint of his intentions Friday night, as he attended the team’s “Live at the Thrillerdome” event at McCamish Pavilion when the Yellow Jackets’ new Adidas uniforms were revealed.
Watson is a prospect with whom the Tech coaching staff has spent no shortage of time cultivating a relationship. He is probably the most important target for Pastner in the 2019 class. He would be the first high-profile in-state prospect to choose Tech in Pastner’s tenure, now going into its third season.
However, Oklahoma State has made a strong push, and the Cowboys have a connection that Tech can’t match. Oklahoma State coach Mike Boynton is Watson’s cousin.
Tech does not yet have a commitment for the 2019 class, one of only three ACC schools in that situation. (Notre Dame and Pittsburgh are the two others.)
