Wishing I was in Stillwater
#1
I realize football is in full swing and we are coming off a huge win against a highly ranked Boise State team, but fall represents another season as well for some people, wrestling season! The season is about 6 weeks away and I expect great things from the Cowboys this year. We are scary good at the lower weights and if we can plug a few gaps in the upper weights, we could make a run for NC #35 this year. I was hoping for the schedule to have our home duals spread out a little because making a long trip to Stillwater twice, (three times if I go to the Saturday basketball game) in the same weekend is pretty hard to pull off. I'll make most if not all duals anyway I suppose. Everyone discuss your expectations, projections, starting line ups for this year. I am not as well connected as some on here so any insight is greatly appreciated. Here is this year's schedule:

Looking forward to this season. As an out of state fan, I won't get to see them this year in all likelihood. Really curious to see how the line up settles... which wrestlers move up a weight? How healthy can we stay? Etc.

Anyone know what the plan is at the lower weights? I'm really excited to see who emerges.
Seth has a lot more insight than I do... but if I were a betting man I would guess the lineup will shake this way:

125: Picc
133: Fix
141: Brock
149: Boo
157: Shomers
165: Joe
174: Jacobe
184: Geer
197: Weigel
HWT: White

I think the more interesting questions are from 165-184. You're going to have to sit somebody really good at one of those weights in Joe, Chandler, and Jacobe... You'll also have guys on the bench like Wittlake and Hughes that are going to be good for us.

Not at a bad problem to have.

Thanks for the notes. Any thoughts on what to expect from Joe this year, namely health-wise?

I would hope he's healthy considering he took a year off... but I have no insight. If he's healthy and wrestling at a healthy weight then he should challenge for a top 4 finish.

I've been told they haven't "Officially decided" where guys will go. They're supposed to break it all down when Fix gets back from Junior Worlds.

That said I think he'll be 133. Meaning Pic 125 and Brock and Gfeller battling it out for 141. I think Gfeller beats Brock at 141 personally, but it's really a toss-up.

Rest of the lineup will be pretty close to what @CTeamPoke said 65 Joe Smith with Rogers and Jacobe Smith wrestling for 174. Possibility Jacobe goes 184 and wrestles for that spot. I don't find it likely though.

A good problem to have is an AA potentially riding the bench.

Most dominant program in college sports history. Why we don't market the hell out of that, I will never understand.

The wrestling season starts this weekend at the OCU open in OKC. Anybody have any insight who will be attending? I may try to sneak over and watch some matches if we are bringing more than 2 or 3 guys.

Edit: I just talked to a gooner friend of mine but is a HUGE wrestling fan and he told me he understood that almost the entire OSU team is going and that it will be used as our ranking matches so I'll probably be there.

9:00 am Sunday if anybody else is interested.

Should be pretty much everyone except the guys in the All Star match. I was really hoping we'd get to see Gfeller/Brock and some of the other intersquad matches, but it should be pretty good either way.
