Ban expires November 24, 2013. He can be hired before that date, but penalties must be imposed until that date.

If you want a "big" name coach, fine, go after one. If you want someone who can coach & loves OSU (like Gundy), hire Brooks Thompson - he can coach & he communicates with his players.

Ford wears Bill Self pajamas and has Eddie Sutton sheets. So I would do everything humanly possible to get Bill Self.

I know we tried it before, but, try it again!!!

Brooks Thompson would be good too.

How good of a coach could an OSU really get? Maybe someone on the level of a Mike Anderson or is Mike a little above our level right now? It will be interesting to see who our next coach is but I think its going to be awhile before we are able to get a new one. 10 years makes me sick. I love Gundy and I hope he doesn't get 10 years. 10 years is forever in football. What happens if we start having a couple 7 or 8 year win seasons? Are people going to be ok with it or are we going to be upset?

Ok there are several things here.

1) Ford will be the coach in 2013, unfortunately.

2) are you high? Hell no! I do not want a cheater as a coach here. No to mention an OU coach. That is just plain stupid.

If we hire anyone it should be Greg McDermott from Creighton or Anthony Grant from Alabama.

If Ford is let go anytime during the next few years, because of his contract and buyout, we will be forced to hire a cheap and relatively unproven option. It will have to be a guy like Brooks Thompson or someone in a similiar situation. Go ahead and forget about Bill Self or any other big name.

McDermott's at Creighton because he absolutely bombed at Iowa State. He's not ready for high-major basketball. Don't know if Grant would leave.

Brooks Thompson would NOT be a good coach here.
I agree with this. I like Brooks, but he's not exactly setting the world on fire at UTSA.

Never said he'd be good or even that I want him here. I realize Brooks is a name that gets thrown around a lot, so I plugged him in. I'm just saying it will have to be a young, relatively unproven coach that would accept a smaller contract. McDermott, who you named, would be a good option. As for Anthony Grant, I don't think he'd leave Alabama, as it's basically a lateral move that probably wouldn't offer him a raise. Bottom line is we would not get a big name.

Grant would have much better resources here than at Bama... Where nobody cares how good you are or what the basketball team is doing at all.

Nice analysis, any particular reason why? I know he blew up after we played UTSA but I'd be angry too if my team blew a 12 point lead in 2 minutes and he did about.beat us with significantly less talent.
79-79 in five years at UTSA which plays in the Southland Conference. One NCAA appearance. Not exactly the stuff of legends.
