If our QB threw two incompletions and his completion rate was 97% that means he threw 66 or 67 passes. WHY ARE WE THROWING THAT MUCH?! WE NEED TO RUN THE BALL! HUBBARD IS GOING TO TRANSFER NOW! FIRE GUNDY!

If you left it at 9-3 it wouldn’t be taken as negative. But you just can’t help yourself with the follow-up, eyeroll-worthy dig... ...which has actually been proven inaccurate by advanced metrics and conference bowl records.

Hubbard being left off of any preseason Big12 list automatically disqualifies said list.

Yes, we should definitely all use the fair and objective metric for evaluating QB performance known as...your eyes. Why even have stats anymore? Let’s just put RutherfordFan on ESPN so he can grace us all with his ocular knowledge.

Wait, holy crap, wait. By the single stat you’re using (completion percentage), you’re saying that Cornelius was the 7th best QB in the league...when the very chart you pasted shows him to have the 6th best completion percentage? Are you just making up an additional criteria that you aren’t...

I’m...not making it black and white. My point was actually the exact opposite. That, indeed, it is a lot more nuanced than simply saying “Gundy puts more emphasis on being able to get the play off quickly than on who can make the best throws.”

The Real Fall Camp 2019 Thread

I think you’re oversimplifying what he said and the ramifications of being able to run the offense uptempo. It’s not just about throwing quickly. It’s about being able to read defenses quickly so that you know what to do, where to go before they have time to adjust. If it takes 20 seconds to...

Not many will much understand this chart but it speaks volumes about the job Gundy has done.

And I don’t really see a problem with that. The standard has been set pretty high for nearly a decade now. Since 2010, the team has finished with less than 10 wins only three times. And after each season that they didn’t finish with ten wins, they followed it up with a ten win season. 2012: 8...

I think realistic expectations are relative to each fan, though. What’s realistic to you may seem pessimistic to someone else and vice versa.

It may be but I’m not sure that will be the total story. He threw a lot of touchdowns to get that QB rating. I’ll take less throwing TDs if it can also mean single digit interceptions instead of the 13 that Corndog threw. And I’m not bashing Cornelius, by the way. I thought he was good for a...

The Baylor game, specifically, we lost due to penalties. Four point loss, 133 penalty yards. Yuck.

Regarding giving up sacks, better special teams play, and overall defensive improvement, I agree with you for the most part. I need to see those things actually improve before I believe the hype. The discipline, though, I can believe since last year was an outlier when compared to past seasons.

I don’t think what he was referring to was coachspeak. When he talked about discipline, I think he is specifically talking about those penalties which cost us at least one game last year.

Last season, we finished 115th in the nation in penalties. In 2017, we finished 37th. In 2016, 47th. That’s the discipline ownership he is referring to. Do you think we are going to finish outside the top 100 in penalties again?
